Hey Everyone,

Im using pro tools le 6.9, with a digi 002...and my audio sounds decent... but how come when i record guitars into the comp with all this digital equipment, and with taylor guitars, and 1000 dollar amps and professional equip...my audio sounds out of tune when i play it back...ive been playing guitar for 49 years....and know how to tune the guitar..but the playback sounds kinda out of tune...especially when i layer instruments on tracks...like 2 guitars or 3....please help...no effects are on in the sends.....Thanks!

Make sure your recording and playback sample rates are the same.
I'm not a Pro Tools user so I can't offer any specifics other than investigating a sample rate mismatch.

Also, you might want to cut back on posting the same questions in multiple locations of the board. Many frown upon such activities.

thats stupid...

why would people get mad for posting it more than once...this place is about getting answers...i dont have time to sit here and wait for someone to post something...so i post it twice for more oppourtunities to get an answer faster...i dont sit in this all day like most people...Im sorry if im being rude..its just i dont get why people would get mad..its not like it takes up space..or slows down the forum....the people that get mad are the people that have no lives and sit on this hour by minute by minute...and have nuthin better to do than write negative shit.

We don't have time to wade through your cross-posted posts.

And now forget about getting any help from me.

I'm at a party at someone's house and they ask me to take off my shoes, but I say "Why should I have to take off my shoes, I don't do it at my house, and besides you can just clean the floors tommorow while you're picking up all the beer cans and stuff. It's just easier for me to keep my shoes on."

If you can't wait for answers, perhaps pick another hobby that's easier, such as sitting on the porch watching the neighbors water their lawn :)

OK, seriously, I tend to read most of the forums on this site (although I don't live here, I live in Pennsylvania) so I will see the questions if you post them in one place. I'm sure most other helpful/knowledgable folks frequent most of the forums as well.

it could be a latency issue. When you record, the pitch of what gets written is related to the speed it is written at, and that pitch is related to everything else during playback. What I'm not explaining so well is that you might be hearing well-pitched new tracks playing along with lagging previous tracks during playback. So, da/ad converters could be to blame. Irq conflicts can cause that. Irq steering can also cause it. A slow hard drive can do it. Some low quality chipsets can cause it.

If all of that is top-notch and tweaked in your daw, maybe your personal hearing is so well-tuned to pitch you need some guitars with Buzz Feiten tuning systems. That's a bit extreme, but it's possible.

My way of doing it without Buzz Feiten is: Tune up on the fretted notes most commonly used in the song. Don't always tune open strings to their perfect pitch. Let those open strings be off a few cents with the fretted notes being dead accurate.

Just a thought - if you have impedance matching problems, they can sometimes make things sound like they're a bit out of tune. It sounds like you've got some decent gear, so this might not be it. But, if you're just going direct in with a guitar without a preamp anywhere, you could have an impedance matching issue there.

:)

hey guys

hey guys, the Digi 002 made by digidesign for pro tools, has focusrite preamps in it...really nice one..so could it be a preamp issue still?

the 002 does not have focusrite pres in them
only the Mbox does

shouldn't be a sample rate issue since PT keeps playback/record the same...unless you imported the files (which i'm guessing you didn't).
i think we might have to hear it to understand what you're talking about.
