I have a mackie 1604 vlz pro.and i'm wondering if i should trade it for the Tascam TM-D1000 Digital mixer ?????
Is the digital mixer better than the analog or what ????

Well, this should start some kind of major debate. And eventually, someone would say what I am going to say. It is cool to get to say it first. The answer is "What sounds best to you?" Seriously. Digital vs analog is a long argument and each side has its pros and cons. But YOU have to use the board and listen to the results. What do YOU like and prefer? Which board gives YOU the best options for what YOU do? Which board best fits YOUR recording needs? Answer those questions honestly and I think you will be able to live with your decision with few regrets. Unless you have GAS (gear acquisition syndrome) in which case you will never satisfy your need for more new gear.:D

Peace, Jim

Hi Jim,
I do understand what your point is on this question.
But the problem is that i don't have any personal experience with the digital mixer.I mean by that that i haven't use it myself, and the only reason why i'm thinking about buying a digimixer is because i have a freind who's tranna sell me a digital audio card RME Hammerfall 9652 for a good deal ,so knowing that this card works only for digital mixers that's why i need to hear from someone who've had experience with both cards.
Please come in and help.Appreciated...
Peace-out

Only replace the mackie with the 1000 if you need a front end to go digitally into a computer. That's it. The mackie definitely sounds a lot better, and is way more traditional. I got the 1000 over the mackie, cause I want a mic to hit the board and be information until it's on the CD. If you do any kind of live stuff at all, keep the mackie. If you need a mixer that moves around, keep the mackie.

Thank you I.O.P.,
I'm keeping the mackie for now since i'm geting a delta 1010.

dig. or analog

i have a digital recorder ADAT-lx20 that does'nt have an elco ballanced connection. I went with the analog mixer alesis studio32 (using unballanced connections-3 8+8 1/4" snakes). So in other words, I'm going through lots of signal rate conversions, from digital to analog, back to digital and finally to analog again. And after going through all the processors (18 bit), the signal has been sliced and diced. I like to think of it as tiny squares of information. The signal starts out at 20bit digital in the adat 1,000,000 squares of resolution), and when the signal is produced out of my mixer, 800,000 squares. The resolution begins to become less clear. If i bought the Tascam tmd1000 (which for the price is a phat digital mixer), that had adat lightpipe. the resolution would not change. Which brings me to the end of this message. If you have a digital recorder, like your computer, or other standalone digital multitracker, go with the tmd-1000. If your recording onto tape, stick to the vlz.
