Hi,

Please forgive my ignorance, but can I use a digital mic with a 4 track analog tape cassette recorder (tascam mfp01)?

best wishes,

Ian

Digital mic eh?

That tascam doesn't seem to have digital I/O

What model is it the mic?

Hi,
I was thinking of sticking a Sony ECM-DS70P Electret Condenser Stereo Microphone into the 1/4 inch analog mic jack (using a 3.5mm to 1/4 inch adapter)?

Well, I'm not certain that your tascam will provide the plug in power that's required for that mic, but try it. It'll either work or it won't.

Getting back to the OP though. What's the digital mic?

I'm not sure what 'OP' means. I thought the Sony ECM-DS70P Electret Condenser Stereo Microphone was a digital mic? Is it not?

I suppose my question is this: can an analog recorder communicate with this mic?

Nope.

It's an analog mic, just intended for use with typical small recorders, which happen to be digital.

Hope you didn't buy it on eBay...there were knock-offs apparently.

Jesus Christ....I nip out for two minutes..........lol

This is confusing....

Cheers Rami. I did mean original post though.
I thought ianbrodski was talking about two different mics.

Miroslav's right. It's an analog mic but it needs a power supply (not phantom). No go I'm afraid.

Ah, OK I get it.

Miroslav's right.
:laughings: :laughings: :laughings: Oh, wait . It's true, he was right. Well, what do you know. :D

Can he not buy an externat power supply, or should he just buy another mic at that point?

Wise ass.

:D

These kinds of mics get power off the device they are connected to...*IF*...the device is compatible, and able to power the mic.
I don't think there is an external PS one can buy/use.

And yeah....he should just get a different kind of mic. These IMO suck-ass, 'cuz they pick up the noise/hum from the device they are plugged into quite a bit....it's like a lot of built-in video camera mics.

The Sony ECM-DS70P is definitely NOT a digital mic.

Sony don't make digital mics at all.

The only digital mics are made by: Neumann, Schoeps, Sennheiser and Gefell (Beyer used to make one, not to the AES42 standard and now discontinued).
