Real drummers will say there is no such thing as a good electronic drum kit for $600, but I recently got one off ebay that is built by the same people that built the Simmons brand GC had on sale a couple months ago. Paid $399 If you are a real drummer, you will not like it, but if you are looking for something to bang around on, it's pretty cool.

You are in Atlanta, I'm in Lawrenceville, give me a call and come check it out.

Alesis Dm5 pro @musiciansfriend. $599. Not a bad kit for the price.

Watch ebay for quality components & build a set. If you have MIDI interface, the brain can have junk internal sounds... Just be sure it has MIDI OUT.

Here's a few keywords for your research:

Tama Techstar pads go for about $25 per, these use a standard 12" head. Very easy to repair with Radio Shack piezo. Was going to build my own with old shells but these were cheaper.

Yamaha TMX brain goes for about $50, it has 12(?) inputs and midi out... Plus usable internal sounds. Throw in a used Gibraltar rack & clamps, and you've got something you can really smack around.
