Digital connections

Hello.

I just bought a DAT machine, and I want to connect it to my soundcard. The ting is that my Digital in/out on the soundcard is a phono plug, and the Digital in/out on my DAT is XLR or optical.
How do I connect this, and what cables do I need?

It is sometimes possible to directly connect an AES (the XLR connector) digital signal to a Co-Ax (SP/DIF) input and get it to work. However, levels/impedances are not the same, and some gear may not like it and may even be damaged. The safest way is a $59 box by Midiman, and the two cables (one optical, one coax) that will be necessary to connect the box. Here is a link.

This is the least expensive SURE way to do the interconnect... Steve
