I was wondering if anyone here has auditioned http://www.sweetwater.com/c405--Digidesign--Active_Monitors . I initially thought the price was for the pair, boy was i surprised when i checked them out at sweetwater. I imagine they are a fine monitor, they should be at that price. I believe they are overpriced considering the driver size and count. I know not everybody likes the Mackie 824 but for the money it is a damn good monitor. To think of paying more than twice the price for the RM2, it better be twice as good lol.

I just thought I'd start a dialogue about em, didn't see any info here, what are your thoughts?

that's really got fairly little to do with it you know. its the acoustical engineering quality behind it that really matters..

anyways they're basically re-badged PMCs, with digi converters in 'em i believe. and generally PMC make some damn fine monitors.

Recently, Digidesign and Sweetwater did one of their local ProTools Overview/Basic Training evening seminars, and used these monitors.

Granted, I was not familiar with the sound of the room, or the material, nor did they have any other monitors set up to make comparisson's with, so this isn't a true evaluataion in any sense, but based on what I did hear, my initial reaction was very positive. Great big sound, very clear highs and lows, and I didn't notice any overly hyped frequencies sticking out, and enough power/volume/headroom to easily fill the large meeting room we were in without straining.

If I were in the market for some new monitors, they would definitely be ones I'd like to hear again in a more controlled environment in order to make a better evaluation.

I was looking at the PMC models about 3 months prior, a guy on gearslutz highly recommended them, but they were outside my budget. My personal view is at that price point it would be better to go with full range monitoring. For now I'm saving up for the dynaudio BM5A, I create bass heavy music and they seemed to reveal the low end material better than other monitors.

It seems they impressed Tommy at least initially. I thought they would be good monitors, just not sure if the price is justified.

Thanks Tommy for your input.
