between the two hardware recording vs the digidesign stuff

they are two completely different ways of recording. it all depends on how much flexibility you want.

I would go with "HARDWARE RECORDING -mackie24x8 w/multitrack recorder-DAW with other software", but thats just my opinion.

Do you want to have all the plugins and editing and ability or are you just looking to do like say live recordings?

for real though, digi has great stuff, and there are great other stuff hardware wise also. Each can hold it's own depending on what application are you using it for.

hmm

Crter-What type of DAW?
All in one you mean like a fostex?

Yes I want plugins and editing.. I just thought maybe I mix, record on hardware. Im only doing
music production.

Though I want control.

If i go digi , i will be using all my 10 outs on my mpc and every out on my keyboard sound moudule. i want everything on a channel

No Im talking about a computer workstation, soundcard of choice and software of choice. Dont get me wrong Pro Tools is a powerfull tool (I had a Digi 002 rack but I sold it) I just didnt like the limitations of Pro Tools LE I find myself doing much better work with Cubase SX3 and I dont have to worry about track count plus I think it sounds better  But I DONT want to get into the Cubase, Pro Tools war its just my choice.

Oh ok. I didn't know what you were talking about. If I go that route I could just go with a mackie mixer, soundcard and recording software. Corect? prottools limitations?

If I go protools le dont i need the digi 002 rack and mbox?

question whats the difference betwen the factory and rack?

I look at it. If I go protools le I would go for the digi 002 the mixer for $2100
probablycan find abetter price though. let me ask you this if im using alot of OUTS I would need a stand alone mixer? Thats why I was thinking big board.

so you're saying you want the 002 plus an analog mixer of some sort?
what is your reasoning? When do you want to have more than just stereo outputs?

No, I was saying If I use the 10 outs on my MPC 2000 and digi 002 only have 8 ins i would need a external mixer? or what?

oh, i getcha....no, the 002 has a total of 18 inputs on it. 8 via analog, 8 via ADAT optical, and 2 via SPDIF coax.

it's up to you to figure out how to route signal to it. But you can use all 18 at once if you want. To get a cheap, easy way to use the ADAT inputs, look at the Behringer ADA8000. I think your MPC has SPDIF out on it though.

so you think the 002 is better then mackie mixer w/ alesis 24track hard disk recorder?

better in what way?
is blue a better color than red?
again, two different ways of recording/mixing.

each can have it's benefits. ask yourself if you want to be able to edit your audio in a computer or just want to mix it off the hard disc recorder.
