Hello Everyone...I hope I can get some good opinions on this..I recently have been thinking about creating a home studio for myself...I have been out and about asking tons of questions around the music stores...I was thinking of going with the Digidesign 001 and ProTools LE which seems to be the industry standard..but recently on their forums there have been alot of people not to happy with the product...for reasons of tech support, no XP support, etc,...and that got me to thinking...then I saw alot of people who are really likeing Cubases SX..and I have used the Cubase platform before (although I hear its nothing like the older cubase's, but more like neundo)...so let me get to my main question...which is:

Should I go with the Digidesign001 system w/Protools LE (keeping in mind its alot older)
or
Cubase SX with a DSP2000 C-Port (you can see the C-Port here)?
(or maybe another soundcard/breakout box?)

I currently have:

-yamaha pacific 512 electric guitar w/Peavy 112 solid state amp
-fender gemini acoustic
-kurzweil sp76 keyboard
-roland jv 1010 sound module
-behringer ultragain pro preamp
-audio technica 3035 mic

Any opinions or thoughts on this are greatly appreciated..?

I don't use SX yet, (it's on it's way) but I use 32/VST and all I can say is:

as far as I understand Digi with Pro Tools LE is 24 tracks, very little if any effects and is very limited

With my computer and Cubase 32/VST I have 128 audio tracks with great MIDI interphase, bunches of plug in's and effects. Cubase is much less proprietary and seems more versitile for home based systems.

Just my $ .02

PLease do your best NOT to crosspost in this forum. The site is already having bandwidth problems as it is.

Your call, really: both are excellent software platforms. (I can't speak to the hardware- I haven't used either of them.)

I'm much more familiar with Cubase VST/32 and I've played with SX. Cubase has several advantages over ProTools in my book. Primarily VST instruments- midi controlable software sound modules.

ProTools IS the industry standard, but mostly becuase of its hardware's ability to make slow computers very efficient studio machines. PT got established this way back when computers didn't have the speed and muscle they have now, and has retained its stronghold in the pro audio world.

In any case, the fact that it is industry standard doesn't really give it an edge at the consumer level. Digidesign's consumer level stuff is no better than every one else's. In my opinion, at least. :)

Good luck,
Chris

POS forum. Drafted a big response, only to be told that there are too many users when I tried to submit it.
