Hey guys I have currently a Digi 001 with a Soundcraft Spirit Folio Mixer. I have yet to use it but my studio is almost done. My friend can get the FW-1884 for a pretty good price and asked if I wanted to get one. The faders used in the conjunction with a computer would be nice. I don't have time to sit and spell out all the details but what would you prefer personally, Digi 001 + Protools 6.4 or FW-1884 + Latest Version of Sonar. Of course this is all on a PC Windows XP.

Depends if you want to get rid of Pro Tools. If you're not using pro tools for compatibilty with other studios then I would say that switching to Sonar would be a better choice.

I run a 1884 with adobe audition and love it. The sound quality is great for the price and it works as it's meant to as a controller. It would work even better with Sonar because it has Native support meaning every button/knob on it works perfectly.

Another thing to conisder is how many inputs you need at once. I added an additional behringer 8 channel pre using the Adat in on the Tascam so i could have 16 ins.

If you want to continue using pro tools and want a controller then check out the mackie control or even the behringer controller.

i'd say think about which software you are more comfortable with. The number of inputs on the devices have nothing to do with it....they pretty much support the same.
besides, going the 001 route is going to save you a ton more money. and i think you can even use the 001 with the ASIO driver and it will work with Sonar. two birds with one stone. then fine an inexpensive controller

The question I would ask myself is do you want an interface that is restricted to only one application and that (as far as I know correct me if I'm wrong) is not manufactured any more therefore will not be supported (if not now then soon) or do you want an interface that will work with most major applications and is very much alive.
