Oh REALLY????
this will probably be a dumb question but the search did not give me good results... i need to transport max. 8 dig tracks from my AKai DR-008 HDR to computer, will a digital in (SPDIF or whatever) suffice to transport all tracks (not necessarily all at once) without getting timing issues?

The dude at AKAI told me that a simple SPDIF connnection would not do, that i would need a clocking device (AKAi had it , Of course.... but it costs like 400,-) ... but i don't see any cards out there with multichannel dig ins... now I'm confused... i do remember Korg (?) had a 12 dig in soundcard..

Please help!

There are a few cards that have 8-channel ADAT or TDIF digital i/o

And there is no way to use just a regular stereo digital in? I'm kinda broke right now, i was thinking about transporting two tracks at a time, but i'm gonna have problems with synchronising the tracks then?

Thanks!

You can go in one or two tracks at a time and they will line up BUT you'll have to drag them in to time manually. What I've done in the distant past was to slate all the tracks with a single "click" at the beginning of the tune (I'd patch a drum machine to all eight tracks and record a single click). Then once you record all the tracks into the computer, I'd zoom in all the way and line up the "click". No timing issues to speak of and it works. I've done it many times going in analog or digital.

Thanks track rat, I did use this method once but tracks did not only start seperatly, but the tempoi was different too (the gap getting larger in time... Might be due to the crappy yamaha tapetracker i was using ,. anyway, i was thinking about using the first four clicks of the clicktrack that way.. So that works? thanks man!
