different VF models

what's the difference between the VF160, VF160EX & the VF16?

The VF16 was the original (5 years ago?) often if not always without a CDR burner; the VF160 was an update using a slightly different case and some different components plus a larger HardDrive and usually with a CDR burner; and the VF160EX is 99% like the VF160 except it comes with the CDR burner as standard and not as an option (except apparently in the UK) and it's face is silver instead of gray.

The operation of all these is 99% the same.

True. Also my present Vf160 is much quieter (effectively silent) compared to my original VF16, due I think to changes in the drives and the way they are located in the machine. The 160 also has a bigger drive: 30Gb compared to 5Gb on the 16.

i may be wrong but i think the VF160 has 20g and the EX has a 40g drive.

The VF160's shipped as of February 2003 had a 30gig. Another great thing about these machines is the wide range of drives they seem to take, up to 80gig. This is very unusual for some brands.
