Differences between Dean EVO Special vs. Special Select?

Are the only differences between the EVO Special and EVO Special Select the figured top, pickups, and fret inlays? If I don't care about cosmetic upgrades, and I plan on replacing the pickups anyways, is there any advantage to getting a Special Select over the Special?
