Difference between MD421's

Can anyone tell what the difference in sound is between the older black & white MD421's ?? I want to buy one to record toms and electric guitar.

The'yre very close in sound, the "grey" ones tend to have a mellower tone.
The current MKII's, however, are brighter sounding than either of those.
Sometimes you can score one of the old grey one's that had a better clip than most all of the other models because it screwed on instead of slipping on.

The older MD421 sounds smoother because it has a copper coil, the MK11 has am aluminium coil and sounds a bit hotter.

Yes I know, but I want to know what the difference is between the black and the beige mics other than colour.
I mean black ones can also be from the older series MD421's right??

Yes they can also be black.
The one in the picture, however, is more collectible-
especially in mint condition.
Everyone should have a 421!

For practical purposes yes, although again for vocals the "grey"
421's can sound a bit more mellow.
