Difference b/w Mackie Universal Control and Digi002

I would like to set up a protools environment and would like to know what the difference b/w these two are.

002 also comes with software....there is also about a $1000 difference between the two.
 
do the faders on the digi002 controll the signal going into the A/D converters when you are recording like a normal analog mixer or do they control the protools software when you are mixing?
 
Thats what I figured, I just couldnt understand why they would place the price so high. I guess it is leaned towards other software such as sonar and cubase.

the 002 surface unit is just the rack unit but with a control surface. so all the faders and everything are just controlling PT. the signal going to PT is controled by the gain of the preamp or the level set in the preferences inside PT.
