Did Some XP tweaks now burner burns slow

I did some tweeks in xP from the www.musicxp.net/tuning tips.htm page. My cd burner is a 16x. Now, the fastest I can burn with it is 12x. It is strange. anyone help me?

You didn't happen to change what brand media you were using, did you? Or slip in an off brand disc or an RW instead of a CDR? What burning software are you using? I use NERO, and every time I use a CDRW, it resets my default speed to 4x instead of 24X.

Nero does that to me as well. I figured out that if I put the disk in and let the drive recognize it before I start up Nero, it will display the full speed. And on my other computers, that happen to have adaptec, if I wanna continue a CDRW I have to put in the CD and let it read before I click on the Create CD icon(I really hate adaptec and roxio and all that non-nero crap)
