a friend of mine's drummer got a brand new porkpie kit--custom built for him at an endorsement cost that was still $3000, and it's less than a week old--we connived him into letting us use it before even he has tracked with it-
the set up was this:
shure beta 91 in the kick
shure beta 57 on the snare
akg 414 on the 12" high tom
AKG d112 on the 16" floor (HUUUUGE SOUND!!)
Rode NT5's on overheads...
on first listen, the sound is huge... with NO EQ the kick will knock you over, the toms are meaty enough to feed a small nation, and the snare made my chest hurt by the end of the night... in short, it rocked. I can't wait to get some of the tracks finished so you guys can hear... but it'll be a while-- he made the recordin' on his brand new mac g5, and I can't use the files he burned on sonar or cubase... plus workin' two jobs and four bands and trying to build my own project studio, things get hectic...
AHH it was incredible.
maybe I've calmed down a bit now, but not enough to really fall asleep... oh well, on to ebay to search for a grace 101 or something...
