This is a heavy deftones song i re-did into a piano version

I dont know much about recording but i thought for 6 hours of recording/mixing this was a good start.

Yea, i figured the piano sounds what i think it should after some sleeping on it. What do you think of the overall song? Deftones on piano? I think if your a deftones fan you'll dig it, but if your not, you wont like it. am i right?
 
At first listen, sounded like all the MIDI projects I used to do. I'm not trying to say anything negative at all here. Just saying that that is the first that popped in my head.

I would like the piano more heavy and without so much reverb.

The vocals sound like someone is trying to record these quietly without actually singing it out loud from the gut. The reverbed vocals are just plain in the way of figuring out what the words are.

The drums are just basically saying, "Listen to me, I'm the main instrument here. The Piano and the singer are just accompanying me while I make my presentation."

I didn't hear bass but that could simply be the crappy headphones I use at work. :)

I don't mean to be rude or judgemental, but hey you asked and I think you deserve and honest opinion. I am alway so glad to hear other people's honest opinions on my mixes. It sucks to still suck at mixing but it helps me improve. For example, I already know where to look when someone says, remove mud, add air, boost hats and cymbals, give each instrument it's space and so on. I may not be good at those yet, but I'm learning. :)

I'd go with Tim's idea of posting Piano tracks clean. Then you go from there.

Dude, if i wanted a "thats good i love it" then id ask my mom. You guys have no idea how much i appreciate raw honesty. I would have to agree with the drumming statement. I should tone them down, and possible turn the bass up cuz its hardly noticeable.

The singing part is very soft and not from the gut, if i could get a deftones fans opinion on the singing part (or anyone accustomed to chino's singing), should i change it?

*Piano has no reverb, ill post the two piano tracks alone (cuz i duplicated the piano track, didnt slide it though, just added a "Cosmonaut effect" to one and slid it 80 to the right and turned it down. You can hear this at one point when i mute the original piano track in automation, its close to the end.
 
Yeah the singing is not very Chino like. I mean sure its in the same regeister but it does not have that passion. Chino is able to sing with a lot more gut and at the same time sound soft and angelic.

I agree. Although, I heard a different side of chino's vocals when i went to the store and bought the new b-sides and rarities, where i heard a soft whispery voice on a few of the acoustic songs they did. I would be dissapointed if i just mirrored chino's vocals, much less am i able to do it anyway, but i thought that with the piano, it would be nice to have a soft vocal part in it. Maybe i should try re-singing it with more gut but i dont know if it would maintain the eerie piano song feel as much as with the whispery vocals. dunno, just a fun project in between frustrating originals :)

Do you think this idea has the ability to be a strong piece? Its going to be hard enough turning a deftones song into a piano piece, but do you think the idea and groundwork i set is able to be a decent project?
 
Personally, I'm always up for "outside the genre" adaptations. I did enjoy a little bit the metallica symphony adapation and I do enjoy the occassional classical piano piece offerred on a really fast past cranked up guitar. :)

Then there's the english band Bond which does classical music on violins but to techno beats.

So to answer your last question, I don't know deftones other than by what I hear from others, but I'd still be willing to go find the original song and compare it to the alterntive presented if the piano adaptation was good enough. :)
