Well....The last few days my computer has just not been able to connect to the internet. So I goto in the connections part and click repair on the network bridge and sometimes it would go back and work. Sometimes it didnt. I've disabled the bridge then try to enable it and it says the network cable is unpluged which when I look down its pluged in and the lil green light is on so whats up with that? Will a new network card fix this? Thanks

-Windows XP Pro
-Road Runner(all my other computers on the network are working fine)

...

yeah, maybe try buying a new card, see if that solves the problem. you can get them pretty cheap, if it turns out the new one doesnt work either, it could be the mobo pci slot. but a new one should work fine, just make sure you totally delete the old one, and instal the newest drivers for the new one

Are you using internet connection sharing though that computer with 2 network devices? Just wondering why you are setting up a bridge...

No, Here's the chain.

Modem - router - computer

I don't know why it's set up as a bridge. I just pluged everything in and followed what linksys said to install it.

Eaiest thing to do is use system restore to roll the computer back to a few days before it started acting wierd. Then get rid of the bridge in XP, and check for spyware/adware/viruses. Could be a bad cat5 cable, but I assume you've already troublshot that. As for the lan card being toasty, it would probably either work or not. Never seen a cable modem problem that was intermittant without a cat5 or coax cable problem...

Ok...If I do the restore thing back a few days will it affect any of my files that I've changed or downloaded after then?

Nope... only thing it will affect is any programs you've installed btween the two points. All system restore really does is save/restore your registry. All your data/docs will be fine...

If you recently installed a router, you need to reboot your Road Runner modem and flush the old MAC address out of its memory and have it find the new MAC address of the Linksys router.

Road Runner modems always memorize the MAC address of the network card they connect to.

My router has been working fine for over a year now.

I always turnoff wait 15 sec then restart the modem all the time when something isn't working right. Sometimes it fixes it. Right now the computer is working fine. Maybe this problem won't happen again...
