It's a cover of a song called "Brand new colony"....... Ya never heard of it either. Got to say I looked it up and like this version better cause there's guitar. It's all him playing except I added the high strings at the end and a little direction. Let him pretty much make the call on the mix except when I knew it would pop someones speakers or something.

Any way try this link.

Let me know if there's probs. it should stream a 320kbps mp3 to ya.

i like it. i like the space everything is in. I like a lot of reverb when it's done tastefully. What did you do for reverb/delay etc, and what plugins(or hardware) did you use?

The original song is Postal Service, i think. Either them or Death Cab For A Cutie, which has the lead singer. They had a song in that m+m's commercial 6 months ago where it looked like a kaleidoscope.

Original is postal service and it's all synth.

I recorded everything threw a at-3035 using a pre from a vlz-24.4
I used waves and cakewalk plugs, Verb was vaious Rverb setting s from waves. the delay is a m+s 2tap delay (basicly a fancy looking stereo delay with pan and volume controlls for each delay and an un effected channel in the middle)

I should add there is no feed back on the delay beyond one echo each side.

Compression on vox was VC64 vintage channell from sonar producer. I really like that plug.

Anyway I ended up pulling the backups out of the first two?? verses didn't really fit. I'll replace the file soon.

I think this really sounds great.

Thanks Hiwatt. Some times you get lucky;) He really hammered the strings. My accoustic handles that very well, better than most. It gave the song a interesting almost shuffle sound.

Thanks again.

Damn my nephew!!!! He's got me a little hooked on this song now  What will my band mates think? Should have mixed it like shit so I couldn't take it. Perhaps recorded with the mic that came with my first computer :( I hope this passes soon. Does this often happen? Do you get attached to other peoples music you record?

Cool tune.....nice sounds. Good job on the acoustic. It fits this well.

I have to say I don't like the patch for the beep beep sound. It's a bit light for me... Never heard the original so not sure if this is a valid comment :o

Guitar is good, and the strings sound ok and sit really nice in the mix.

Actually "everything will change" shoot now you got me hooked..... Actually I was trying to say, it all sits together well... The plug-in you're using are very nice - verb/compression.

Good performance by the nephew too - I like his vocal tone/style a lot..... he must get his talent from your side....

:) :D :) :D

His voice doesn't give Ben Gibbard too much justice, but it's pretty good overall. Good recording, really like the acoustic guitar tone, and the synth.

And I believe the song on the M&M's commercial was Such Great Heights, and it wasn't The Postal Service version in the Commercial it was the Iron & Wine cover of the song.

Take care,
Adam.

I amnt sure of the tone of the hi pitch synth. Maybe cut some hi or hi mids on it to fit with the rest of the mix rather than stand out too much. Could use a tad more reverb on the hi synth to meld it to the rest of the mix.

Nice sound overall. Rythym is tight and keeps the listeners attention well.

It's a pretty beepy song. I downloaded it to see what he was after. I'm just glad he wanted the guitar.

My side??? Nooooooooo! :D No bloud there. I'll have to get the nephew on my side over here to record some drums some time. He got voted best musician in the senior high band. And the band has taken state many times.

Thanks for the comments.

Waves verbs are nice but your pushing it to go 10 to 12% wet in the mix.
I they are pretty easy to tame and that's good cause they need it:)

Ya he's got a bit to learn. I'm not in to the whole english accent thing. Always has puzzled me. You can't hear it when Roger Daultry sings;)

Ya the hi synth (strings) do stand out more than I intended. I have a hearing loss at hi frequencies so I'll convieniently use that as an excuse :D There is also an oscilation between the hi synth and something else in the recording. Either the low synth or one of the strings on the guitar that was ringy.

Thanks Eck for the suggestions. I may do some fixes on the mix and teleport a copy to him.

No probs Fruidian.
I only noticed the hi synth being out, but I am a little drunk so didnt manage to catch the oscillation problem.

Eck

Most would just think it was a synth effect but I know better having heard the track alone....
