I just need some clarification. A DI box isn't necessary if the preamp has a 1/4 inch line in right? Also, I should still run the output of the DI box through my high end preamp insted of directly into my Digi002, correct?
Any reccomendations for a high end DI box? 400-800 range. Right now I'm looking at Avalons and Manleys.
Thanks!

You still need a DI box. However, if you're preamp has a 1/4" instrument in, which may be what you meant (sometimes called "Hi-Z input"), you can just plug your axe there and won't need a DI box. The instrument in means the preamp got DI capabilities up it's sleeve.

I was going to purchase the Avalon U5 for tracking bass, but purchased a Great River ME-1NV which has the Hi-Z input. It is great for tracking bass, guitar and vocals :)

Thanks that helped but I saw an old thread and have a couple more questions.
The preamps I have, have an "line XLR input". I want to use this for bass, guitar amps and keys. Do I even need a DI Box or can I simply use a 1/4 inch to XLR cable and go straight into the pre?

Still need a DI for the guitars at least... they're at an instrument level... depending on the output options of the keyboard... you might be able to go direct with that...
