i recently bought drumkit from hell superior..im using my yamaha Dtxpress 3 to trigger the samples..the problem i have is i play a paticular beat or rythem and it doesnt trigger it the way it is suppose sound..i tried adjusting the hard and soft limit of dfhs and it helps a little..has anyone ran into this problem? is it my drum pads? also does dfhs trigger samples in realtime? because when i trigger the samples on my dtxpress 3 it takes a second or so to hear it on my monitors..thanks

DFHS does trigger in "real-time"; however, it will depend on the PC you are running it on. First, there is an option to only load in an e-kit configuration and for playing live I recommend using this configuration. This does not load in all the samples, just a subset. Second, you really don't want the PC to be accessing the disk drive to find the samples so you need enough memory (i.e., SDRAM) to load all the samples.

Even in the e-kit configuration you will need to hit all the triggers at least once so DFHS knows what to load for your respective selection.

well i have one gig of ram on my computer and 104 gigs left on the processing..i still cant get it to trigger in real time and i still cant get it to trigger every single hit correctly! also whats up with the Left and right..i know they are for left hand and right hand but since im on a drum pad how am i suppose to change midi notes for each left and right since its a single drum pad?...for an example...lets just say the left snare is 36 and the right snare is 38..how am i suppose to get 36 and 38 on the single pad? get what im saying?

1 GB of Ram is not a lot. When you select a set of drums, DFHS will display the amount of memory required; if its more than you have, DFHS will "stream" the samples from the hard disk. This kills the possibility of real-time playing. The latencies for disk access will vary and they will be noticeable. You need to cache the samples in RAM.

In addition, it sound to me that DFHS is trying to load all the variants of the samples (i.e., various velocities, Left/Right). Basically, you have to forget about the Left & Right hand samples and just pick one. There are other things you can turn off to reduce the quantity of memory required as well.

As for what Midi note you need to map, that will depend on the sample (left or right) you choose. There are drum maps included with DFHS for various drum brains and host applications usually have mapping capability. Fore instance, there are CAL files available for cakewalk that will take general Midi and convert the notes to DFHS.

Don’t know what recording software you use but I would guess that there is some mechanism that allows the mapping of midi.
