Before I plunk down the cash, I was hoping someone could give me more info on Drumkit From Hell Superior. I used the search and found some helpful things, but still have questions.

First, I record on a standalone Tascam 2488. My music style typically ranges anywhere from radio-friendly pop-rock (Goo Goo Dolls) to heavier stuff like Pantera and Slayer. I've currently been using various drum loops with somewhat success, and a Boss DR-660 before that.

I'm now ready to take the leap into sample-based drum progamming and have been impressed with what I've heard from people using DFHS. Since I'm not doing any recording via the computer and know little about MIDI, the transition scares me. And I've yet to come across any tutorials for DFHS.

On the computer front, I've been using SoundForge and Acid Pro for looping and adding VST effects before sending back to the Tascam. I've also been experimenting with a demo of Beatcraft and have started to get the hang of programming the drums...but the sounds aren't up to par. Can any of these programs be used to trigger DFHS or do I need a different program? I also have a version of Ableton Lite which I've never used.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

The only useful host for DFHS that I am aware is a software sequencer. I'm not sure if you can trigger DFHS from an external sequencer since this is a VSTi. Given that, I'd say I'm 94.2% sure that you'll need a software sequencer (nTrack, cubase, ...)

I can't answer as to how else to trigger it, except software, as I use Sonar for mine. I use teh mouse, but it's not really that hard. It's still harder for me to mix the individual tracks, to get the sounds I want. But programming is relatively easy, once you use it a bit.

Thanks for the input, but I need more help. How would I use DFHS with Acid Pro? As I said, I've been experimenting with Beatcraft http://www.acoustica.com/beatcraft/ and I think the programming and layout is very user-friendly. It has it's own sequencer and arranger built-in, but the sounds aren't the best. Would I not be using DFHS to it's full potential if I trigger the DFHS samples using Beatcraft?

DFHS will work as a stand alone sampler for use with electronic drums, or as a VST instrument within a host software.
You're obviously wanting to use it as a VST instrument. To do this you need a host software that has full MIDI functionality and can use VST's.
I don't know much about Beatcraft, but from looking at that link you posted, it doesn't look like something you could use with DFHS at all. DFHS is just a sampler, you need a MIDI sequencer to trigger it. You also cannot access the sound files outside of using the DFHS sampler.
For example, I use Sonar and program the drums by hand using the piano roll view. All I am doing is creating a midi track that will trigger the sounds from DFHS.

Metalhead28,

you're right...Beatcraft supports VST effects, but not VST instruments. Oh well...onto plan B. Since I'm comfortable using Acid Pro, which apparently DFHS works with, I may give it a shot. Although I'm sure I'll have many more questions.

If anyone has anymore input, please respond. Thanks everyone!
