Hi,

Im fairly new to the audio side of music writing and recording as having delt with midi for most of the time up until now.
Im studying composition at uni and im required (as such) to get some new equipment.

Im looking to get an MBOX that will come with Pro Tools LE and some other bundeled software that will be quite usefull. (Pro Tools is at uni)

NOW, heres my question.

Ive gotten this idea into my head that i'd like to have surround sound with my computer set - up, CAN I: set up the MBOX with surround sound (I cant afford a 002 by the way).

I thought of getting a reciever (dolby surround) and using the line out from the MBOX into the surround sound reciever which i guess will give me a synthesised effect (not real surround in other words)... i hope im on the right track!!!!

Will this work.... dont forget that i have no knowledge of this sort of stuff what so ever... up until i learn it

Thanks,

Matt.

P.S> what is TRS.. on the back of the MBOX (in the picture) it has line output (TRS)????

Thanks again....

TRS stands for Tip Ring Sleeve. A TRS jack allows a balanced signal down the wire which eliminates any noise interference.

Can't really help you with your surround sound issues. I have enough trouble mixing 2 channels of audio

Bulls Hit: LOL and I agree!

And Bass_M@ - I can't help but think that you're just going to clog up your mixes and confuse yourself with a 'synthesized effect' that approximates 5.1.

My advice would be to dispossess yourself of the notion until you can afford the equipment for real 5.1 and just get on with what you're required to get for your classes...

i would forget the surround sound thing.
its taken me 20 years of recording and still learning to do stereo mixes !
and do yourself a favour - check out the new magix music studio 2005.
its a great package and 70 bucks , does 64 tracks.
and get yourself a decent sound card and go to it.
you could even try kristal - does 16 tracks and its free.
kreatives.org.
before making a big decision check out ntrack at fasoft.com.
it has a legion of admirers and in my opinion is better than a lot of more expensive software.
or go crazy and wild and think about linux OS.
i'm going to try this year ardour running under linux for laughs.

Provinding you sound card is supported well, you wont be laughing after trying ardour, it will be more like "WOW!"
