Cart before the horse

Unless you use Angelfire to test out WS_FTP, you'd need to sign up at CC for space before you can try things out...

(You need to point WS_FTP at some server space, otherwise, it is kinda, well pointless...)

YEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!!

I got that scratch drum mp3 to work on my page FINALLY!!!

I did the wave profiler in Cakewalk and I also messed around with the settings when making the mp3 so I'm pretty sure that one of those things did it, because it acually works now WOOHOO!!! :)

I'll try to get those tracks up there A.S.A.P. And like I said before they still need a bit of work (but I haven't had a whole lotta time to work on them since I started working :() and one of the sections is completely cut out towards the end (you'll know it when you hear it ;)). What happened was I have a fill that goes with the guitar part that happens at 1:01 (and several other times in the song too) and I did that fill there but you didn't do the little guitar part there, and it sounded really bad with the fill there and not that guitar part so I got rid of it and I'll go back and copy something from another spot later (makes pefect sense doesn't it? :D).

So anyway, all I have up there right now is that cheesy drum experiment thing (which I did over a year ago and it was only to test out my new mic, so it's kinda.....cheesy ;)), but you're welcome to go hear it (if you have nothing better to do :D). My address is http://www.angelfire.com/trek/tekker/homepage.html and I'll let you know when I get those tracks up there. :)

Cool, progress....

I'll check out the cheese drums tomorrow...

Looking forward to the other stuff eventually.....

I don't know if someone has said this already, but WinAmp will convert MP3->Wave. You can set it to output to a wave file instead of the soundcard. It's pretty easy to do (I don't remember the exact steps, though).

Hey Mark,
Thanks for pitching in, but I'm guessing you might have been on the first page of the thread when you posted your reply. tkr is currently trying to work out FTP issues, not MP3 conversion.

tkr,
Just listened to the test file. You're right, they do sound kinda cheesy. I doub't the 32K bitrate helped any, plus I listened on my PC (very cheesy) speakers at work.

Just thought I'd let you know that the test worked for "someone else" (me).

I warned you didn't I? :D That recording was done with just a Rode NT2 (which is NOT a very good drum mic, as you just heard. ;)).

Well, I've got 3 whole days off now (WOOOHOOOO!!! :)) so I will try to get those drum tracks finished and up there soon. Still getting those individual tracks together?

Mark,
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try that out. :)

OK, I'M FED UP!!!!

I can't get it to work anymore  and I've been working on this thing practically all day and I have had so many different problems it's getting to the point where I don't even want to look at this stupid computer anymore.

So what I was thinking is that we can swap files via Napster, (I think that the filter is just for copyrighted material, but I'm not sure, haven't been there in a while) but we can make a weird word to search for, so that it will get past the filters. So whadda ya think? I've got the MP3s made but I just can't get them onto my page, so doing it this way would make things a LOT easier. Let me know if you think this is do-able.

tkr,
Napster is a no-no at my work, and I'm 56k at home. :(

Can I help you with the FTP thingy?

Didja get space at Collab Central? Angelfire might be the root of your problems.

I'm like a 33k (or something like that) here (plus all the other problems this dumb computer has), so I'm probably a LOT slower than you are :( and I do just fine with Napster. Ya just gotta find something else to do while it's downloading (like play guitar :)), that's what I always do.

Nope haven't gotten the space at CC yet, I just wanted to see what you thought of the napser idea.

I'm not sure that Angelfire is ALL of the problem (but I'm sure it's quite a bit of it) because Cakewalk wouldn't even convert the MP3s. When I clicked on the song in windows explorer the song wouldn't play, then I would click on another MP3 that I had downloaded and it would play (so the soundcard and everything was set up right). So then I downloaded a wav to MP3 converter and now it plays when I click on it in windows explorer but now it won't upload to my page (but I was able to get that cheesy drum thing up there). I don't know, maybe there's some setting somewhere that I need to tweek with, like I did when I finally go that cheesy drum thing to work.

So anyways, I do kinda want to try this out with Napster, and believe me if my stupid computer can do it then ANY computer can do it. :D

Hello again....

I just got done recording a friend that was down here visiting his grandparents (he used to go to my youth group) and I haven't been able to work on those drums because I had to get the CD to him before he left this morning (and I got it to him at around 11:30 last night.....talk about cutting it close :D). And as soon as I finish mixing it (and redu the guitar) I want to post it up on my page, if I can ever figure out what is up with that stupid thing  so you guys can hear it.

So anyways, what do you think about swapping files via Napster (until I can get my webpage up and going)? I'm pretty sure your computer will be able to handle it. ;)

tkr,
No problem on the delay...
I was out of town last night, and this past week has been hell for me at work. Hopefully things will ease up soon. As far as napster goes, it sounds a little too problematic to me for a number of reasons:

  1. I don't have the current version of Napster installed
  2. We both have to be online at the same time to do a transfer.
  3. If using FTP and server space, the files are always there if something goes wrong...
  4. I can upload and download from FTP sites using a T1 connection at work.
  5. It CAN'T be that hard to get it working for you over there at CC.
  6. There's lots of help over there if you need it.

Ok, we are good to go

I just got some FTP space at CC and my dad said he'd help me get the WS FTP setup over the weekend. :) Woohoo!! :)

YIPPIE!!!!!! WS FPT IS UP!!!

Finally :)

There were a few minor complications with my password (or so I thought, it actually turned out to be that "Tekker" wasn't capitalized), so once I figured that out it came right up and I'm in the process of uploading my songs right now (as I type this) and "hopefully" it will work, I guess we'll have to wait and find out. ;)

I fixed alot of the problems with the drums, but I still want to do more on it because there's still a few tempo flurries toward the end (I need to get better headphones so that I can actually hear what I'm playing with). ;) But you can see how you like it so far anyways.......

I'm putting all the tracks up separately so you can mix them how you like. There's a reft overhead, a right overhead, kick, and kick click (which is the kick track with all the low freqs. cut out and the highs pushed way up) it sounds really good when mixed in with the kick track. There is no snare or tom mics and nothing is EQ'd except for the kick click track, which is something I want to do when I send you the final take. And even though the tracks say Left & Right overhead, they really don't sound to good when panned hard L/R because they were completely different mics and just don't have the same effect that a matched pair would, so if you pan the Left overhead to 1/2 way to the left and leave the Right overhead where it is (which is just slightly off center to the right). I didn't center the rest of the tracks when I made the MP3s because my computer started screwing up after I made the Left overhead MP3 and I had to shut Cakewalk down and I forgot to go back and pan the rest of the tracks center before I made rest of the MP3s. But if you want I can pan them center when I send you the final or I can just get everything panned and send you a single mix of the whole kit (so you have less to deal with), but we can work that out when we get that far......I still want to add a guitar part too. :)

So anyway my url is http://www.artistcollaboration.com/~tekker/ so go have a listen and then come back and tell me how much you like it.....:D

tkr,
Capitalization can be a bitch... glad you got stuff working...
I've downloaded the files, but won't be able to listen to them all until tonight when I get home....

tkr,
Last night was a bust. I'll listen for sure tonight, and maybe even get you the other trax.

I'll eventually redo the vox, as they are a little flat, but I'm fighting a cold right now, so I won't be tracking any vocals tonight.

That's cool
