Desperately need help with an effect....

Hello again everyone,
Been gone awhile, actually recording instead of talking about recording. Anyway, I'm having a little problem now that I'm in the mixing stage. I'm trying to get my voice to sound a particular way during part of a song and I can't seem to dial in the effect I want.

I'm going for that "underwater" type sound that you hear used in stoner rock on vocals a lot - think Black Sabbath's "Planet Caravan". I'm pretty sure this is accomplished by using a flanger, but I just can't seem to get it to sound right.

I'm using a TC Electronics M300 dual engine rack mount processor. Any suggestions on how I need to set it up for that vocal sound?
 
I have a feeling Ozzy sang through a Leslie cabinet on that song...

Do you have a POD? The POD has a rotary(leslie) effect on it, the closest thing you're gonna get on the M300 is the 'Tremolo' effect. Start with the timing and depth at 12:00 and adjust to taste.
 
So he was using a Leslie on that song then?

I don't have a POD. I do have a Behringer V amp 2 though. I don't recall there being a Leslie setting on there, but I will take a look.

I've come pretty close through hours of trial and error using the TC unit finally. I used a flanger setting to split the original mono signal into stereo, setting the mix to about 75% wet, with maximum rate and about 50% depth. Then I ran the stereo signal one at a time through two slightly different reverbs (one for the left channel, and a different one for the right) and it gave it a subtle but spacy effect. I also EQ'd it kinda wierd to muddy it up a little.

It's a little more subtle than I wanted and the rate still seems kinda slow to me, but I'll see if I have a rotary on my V amp and try playing around with that. Any other advice is certainly appreciated!
 
You could try sticking your head in a pool of water and record that.

I've done this sort of thing

I used a phazer, maybe your t.c has one, idont know. Mine was a sonic timeworks plugin, anyway cant remember my exact settings but i used alot of depth at a subtle speed to bring it right in and out and then i followed that effect with a 1/2 note delay and a subtle 1/4 note delay (hope i am making sense). As i say cant rember exact settings but the phazer really beet the flanger as it was far less robotic and the delays (experiment with the levels) gave some brilliant watery wish to it. Also try the delay before the phazer. Let me know if this brings you a tad closer.
 
Send the signal out thru a speaker, stick a fan in front of it and mic it.
