Desperate New Pro Audio 9.0 User!

Im using Pro Audio 9.0. My studio consists of a roland xp-80 as my midi controller, EMU's Mo Phatt as my sound module and of course Cakewalk Pro audio 9.0 for sequencing.
Im trying to record different sounds on different channels. But Everytime after i record my first track, from say bank one from my mo phatt, and i find another sound i want from a different bank on my mo phatt and try to record it on track 2. What i hear back now is the new banks sounds. I know this sounds like a dumb question, please bare with the new user here......... Can anyone give me a jump start on recording different sounds to different tracks from different sound sets on my mo phatt sound module???. Thanks a million in advance--

Okay, I'm a little fuzzy on this. But let me guess. You are
recording sounds as midi, correct, but aren't getting the voices
you want. Are you assigning each new midi sound a DIFFERENT
number in the channel? That could be part of the problem.

Like I say, I'm not exactly sure where you are going wrong so
this is just a shot in the dark.

Yes, Im recording midi onto my computer sequence program. I select track one and record a sound i like off the emu' mo phatt sound module. Then i'll select a new track to layer record another sound from a different bank off the mo phatt. once i record the second sound, my first sound changes. It nows starts playing a sound from the second bank selection. I would like to know what i have to do to seperate them all so that i can record different sounds to different midi channels. I have been reading through all the books from all the equipment and cant figure it out. I could make a compete song, but im limited to stay in one preset of sounds. Im obviously new to this, so if you tell me like a 5 yr old kid, i'll get a better picture.=). Thanks much,

Your choice of words in describing what you're doing betrays that you don't have a clear idea what MIDI is. When you record you are not recording "a sound i like off the emu' mo phatt sound module." You are recording messages that say "it's measure 1, beat 1, play an E with a volume of 120 and a duration of 1 beat on channel one," etc. Aside from the actual performance information, the MIDI data only contains what channel the data is on and what patch number is supposed to be playing on this channel.

You have to set up the Mo Phatt to respond to channel messages and you need to know which patch numbers to select for the sounds that you want.

This is all fundamental stuff in using MIDI to sequence sound modules. You really need to stop for a few minutes and read the manuals. If they are too confusing (often the case, sadly) look for some of the articles available on the web, like these:
