What would be a good, accurately rendering pair/set of speakers for the PC?

I'm sure it is intingent to an extent upon the soundcard, but how much so?

Mine are shit, I can't tell when the track is clipping or when my speakers are farting anymore!

Not to mention, I am so tired of cutting bass before mixing and then finding out it was probably, once again my speakers shitting themselves.

Are you looking for professional studio monitors or just better computer speakers like the ones you would buy at Best Buy?

If you want to mix on the speakers, you'll need to look at monitors.

Monitors?

What is the difference between speakers and monitors?

I saw a pair of Fostex which looked pretty nice. I read somewhere that you need at least a 12' for proper bass response, is this true?

What is a good brand to look at in the lower price range?

Fostex PS 3.1 personal monitors

does anyone have any experience with Fostex monitors, specifically the Fostex PS 3.1?

At any rate, I think my crappy soundcard will need replaced before I can hook up any decent speakers. I don't have any RCA outputs at all and all the decent speakers I've seen look like they use them. My soundcard is an integrated SoundMAX, and I'm sure it's next to worthless as far as soundcards go. I don't record directly into my comp. so it's not a huge issue, until now.

No steps forward, three steps back...

hmmm...???

Would it work just as well to replace the soundcard with one that has RCA outputs and then run the soundcard into my mackie via tape input jacks?
