Desk?

Looks like it'll do the job nicely.
I guess it mainly comes down to what you have now. Is there anything that'll improve you're quality that you can do with $230? Got enough mics, cables, boomstands...etc??? What's your gear now?

Heh, right now I only have 2 SM57's. I am planning on getting a firepod, KRK Rockit 8's, RNC, stands, cables, mics etc next week.

The only problem is that I already have a desk in my room and it might be pretty crowded with an extra desk, plus I do need to update my computer and could put the money towards that. I am thinking about just taking off the top off of the desk I have now and building mic stands to elevate the monitors. But, this deal seems like it might be to good pass up! :D

I actually put the money down, but haven't picked it up . So before I take it home I just want to make sure that this will be money well spent. What do you think? Thanks! :)

If you don't buy it can you egt your $$ back?

I just bought a studio RTA desk (not that one) and I like it alot so far. I say go for it.

And check my thread about "new purchase just brought me closer...." for a link to a great price on those KRKs.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I can get my cash back. I bought it at Guitar Center.

Thanks for the link too. I showed them at GC and they said they would match it! :) Your thread was the one that got me interested in desks in the first place. I was looking at the one you got and they guy told me about this deal he had for the one in the link above. I guess he sold a guy a desk and sent the wrong one home with him. So, after the guy started putting it together he realized it was the wrong desk and returned it for the other one. To get it off the floor for more space they sold it to me for cost, which, is $230. Its a tough decision because I could have a slammin desk, but on the other hand I could spend it on updating the computer. Plus, I would then have two massive desks in my room if I got it

If you're getting that sweet of a deal on it and you have another big desk then buy it, sell it for $300 and make a profit, and get even more useless crap....I mean gear.

You might to consider the "Jerker" desk from Ikea. It's less expensive, very sturdy, and you can buy optional swiveling speaker shelves for it. I have Rockit 8s on mine. It's quite popular with home recordists and has done the trick for me in a cost effective manner.

Staples has a great desk for like 150.00
it has risers for speakers, a huge keyboard tray large enough to fit a midi controller, lots of desk space, and an over hang tall enough to fit a fair amount of rack gear under.

I couldn't find it online, but they have one set up in the store here.

I wouldn't buy that if it was me. Put it into equipment other than a specific desk. You can get away with a big rectangle table for a desk.

That's what I reckon anyway.

MCreel,
Thanks for the link on the Rockits too :) I just picked them up on Friday and got the for $399 with the auralex foam. There was a lot more foam there then I was expecting too :) I also picked up a firepod. I decided against the desk. I am spending that money towards a better computer that I am going to order right now.

Thanks again for all of you replies!

IMHO...if you already have a workable desk, use the money for better gear, better soundcard, 2nd hard drive for the pc, more memory, software upgrade with better plugins, etc.

Hmm, you'll have to decided if you REALLY need that desk, or if a normal desk will do the job.

Personally I've just got a large rectangular desk that I bought from Argos for about £70, and I've got my two 17" computer monitors on it, my modules and room for a mixer when I get one. Plus there's loads more space for other stuff like my ancient drum machine, lava lamp, minidisc. There's ample room underneath for both my computers. My MIDI keyboard is on its own stand to the left of the desk. I can't abide those sliding computer keyboard trays.

Personally I'd just buy a large cheap desk and build round that, unless you REALLY must have a 'studio' one.
