Well im pretty mad, i was going through my mics yesterday and i looked at my AT 4050 (my most expensive one) and it has a nice dent right on the back of the metal mesh windscreen and i have no idea how it happened ... does anyone know a good way to bend it back?

I think I see a bit of Andromeda Strain on there! :D

It doesn't look bad at all. It shouldn't affect the mic's performance.

I would leave it alone - it's a bit like a new car's first scratch I suppose, but I would be afraid of damaging something by tearing into it. If you do decide to pull the windscreen, think about pressing the dent out from inside - say, using the end of a wooden spoon and a rubber, plastic or other firm but pliable surface to press the windscreen mesh against. The less work on it the better, though...

yeahhhhh i guess ill just deal with it then .. i just wanna know how it happened.. myhatbroke??????

Pee in its butt, that always works for me and for many around here.

Using the end of a broom handle works great for SM58 grilles (or similar), maybe that would work for this too?

You could probably find a replacement grille too, if you wanted.

It can be done.......

I gotten many dents out of several mics over the years and most recently out of a used condenser I picked up off ebay for dirt cheap (due to its damage) but managed to fixed it good as new. Taking it apart wasnt that complicated really and only took about 10 minutes but just be very patient and carefull while doing so as to not damage anything.

After disassembling the mic and removing its screen, I take a large screwdiver (or any similiar tool with a hard rounded plastic handle end) and work the dent outward from the inside by pushing and rolling the handle over it. It may need a bit more than hand pressure if the dent is close to the end so you may also need to tap the screwdriver head with a hammer or jamm the head into a carpet floor for more leverage while you shape it. Be carfull not to rip the inner foam if it has it and keep your palm over the outside of the dent to regulate its shape as if bends outward.

Hey...I have a dent in my forehead that matches that grill!!!!!!!!!!

Damn you Nick........ :p

Yep, just remove the grill & gently press it out from the inside.
