I think I know the answer but I just wanted to make sure I get this correct... :)

Demo: Normally 3 songs, only used for promotion to record companies and magazines etc. You normaly shouldn't sell these. Can be "ok" quality.
EP: 4-6 songs, good quality. You can sell these.
Full length CD: 8-12 songs, good quality, you can sell these.

I presume a 'demo cd' and 'promo cd' are the same thing also?
I guess you could also send in a 'EP' to record comapanies aswell?

I'm asking because I want to sell cd's of my band but also want to send them to record companies and magazines for reviews.

Thanks.
(sorry if it's a stupid question)

Doesn't matter what you call it, but I'd say an EP is 4-9 songs, full length album 10-x songs. Both should be of good quality (''properly'' tracked, mixed and mastered). A demo doesn't need to be the best, as it is what it says, a demo for something that will be re-recorded later.
