Delta44+Sonar= low latency?

Hi! I'm just about to buy myself a new soundcard. I'm thinking of the delta 44. What latency could I expect from the delta when using sonar in WinXP?

There are too many variables involved for anyone to give you an accurate answer to that question.

However I have read of people getting as low as 1.5 to 3 ms with WinXP and WDM drivers. Of course, YMMV.

all depends how low u set your buffer settings in the M-audio control panelt
@ 64 u'll get 1.5 ms
@128 u'll get ~3
@256 u'll get ~6

and so on, this is at a 44.1khz sample rate if ur recording at 96khz cut those times in half

I have a fairly fast CPU (1400MHz P4). That means I can run softsynts in realtime with the delta44/sonar/WinXP combination, doesn't it? Can it really go down to 1,5ms?

After I posted this topic I read somewhere that with the new WDM drivers you could only go down to 8ms and that's about the highest latency I could tolerate. What I'm concerned about is if I would get crackles at the lowest setting and then have to increase the buffer and get a higher latency. If the lowest setting is 8ms then anything higher would be unacceptable with softsynths.

Is the thing about 8ms true? If so, is the delta card stable at 8ms latency?
