Delta1010LT connections

I'm thinking of getting a Delta1010Lt card. I see it has RCA jacks. How do I hook my preamp up to this? The pre has TRS jacks. Will I need adapters? Will this degrade the signal? Forgive me, but what is the technical difference in balanced and unbalanced inputs? I just want to be able to have at least 4 inputs for tracking drums later on.

What about the Delta 44 or 66? They have TRS jacks. Is there a difference in quality in the 1010lt and 44/66? I will be buying soon so any comments are very appreciated.

Balanced cables are designed to eliminate noise and so are generally better quality than unbalanced. Your need for balanced cables and connections will depend on a few factors regarding how susceptible your cabling is to noise but needless to say balanced is nearly always better. Do a search on this there should be loads of info.

If you only want 4 inputs then why not get the Delta 44? Balanced inputs, breakout box and cheaper than the 1010LT.

If you do go with the 1010LT then you will just need cables with a 1/4" jack at one end and RCA phono at the other.

that's what I'm thinking too, the 44. I knew that balanced/unbalanced thing, some where back in my mind, duh. thanks.

Except on channel 1 and 2 where is has XLR. Bit of an annoying pain if you ask me.

Well, kinda. You need cables with the right connections. The TRS to RCA case this is simply a 1/4" to RCA cable. In the TRS to to XLR you want XLR male to 1/4" stereo cable.

Will this degrade the signal?

Not really, no. It's generally better to use balanced, but unless it's microphone leve signals you won't notice the difference.

RCA snake/cables and a decent patch panel will get you max flexibility.

in the future I plan to record drums and will need 4 mic lines, so I'm thinking the best choice would be the delta 44. thanks for the comments. you all have been helpful.

Hi. Thought I'd share my 1010LT setup

I have it installed in an 800mhz box and I also run my M-Audio MobilePre. It has a 48v phantom powered mic preamp. I use the outs from the pre and go in on ch. 3 & 4. 1 & 2 get directly connected to dynamic mics for vocals.

This setup works quite well. As for the rest of the RCA inputs, I just put an RCA to 1/4" phone jack adapter on them. They're about $3 a piece.
