Delta Omni Studio: Good choice or am I missing options?

Just a hobby musician, so nothing serious, but it attracts me
for the following reasons:

--

Delta products seem to be popular on the board...

I LOVE the breakout box WITH gain control knobs, monitor /
headphone volume knobs, etc. VERY convenient, which is VERY
important to me...

I don't have alot of room, and 6 in 6 out is about all I can handle.
The MOTU's for instance are all rackmount...

Split-Console design is PERFECT for me. I have a Behringer 802,
but managing ingoing / outgoing signials with just the current
SB Live is tough...

--

However, am I overlooking other options?

The Aardvark Direct
Pro interested me at first, but I hate software gain control and
the lack of manual control (KNOBS!) seems inconvenient...

The MOTU stuff is all too large, and quite honestly, too far above
my budget.

I record mostly guitar / Midi keys / various sounds into a hodge-
podge which only a few would call "music."

Anything I'm overlooking? Any bad experiences with the Omni
Studio? Anyone willing to sing its praises?

Thanks!

Justin

For the $399 you are paying, the Omni cant be beat....the preamps on that are pretty damn good, you get flexible routing, very good converters.....I think youll be happy.....if you have Midi gear, it doesnt have Midi in/out, but you can keep your SB Live for that.....

the AARDVARK does have some shielding on the card which may make it quieter.......not sure, though, i haven't tested it against the DELTA 66 which comes with the OMNI STUDIO.

get the OMNI, it is just too cool.

Good choice

Yes, by all means, go for it. I think the Omni Studio is quite a bit more flexible than the DirectPro, Seasound, or any of the DAW packages available in that price range as far as I/Os, inserts/effects sends, and monitoring. As Gidge mentioned, the DMP2-based preamps are great, good converters, etc. Also, support is as good as any of its competitors, there are drivers for pretty much every OS, including win2k.

A great choice -- I have a Delta 66 and couldn't be happier with it, though I use a small mixer instead of the OMNI i/o. And just wanted to check -- you are aware the Delta has no MIDI interface or MID synth built in to it? No reason you can't keep the SB Live in the box for that use -- in fact, that's basically the setup I have.

Sorry guys....

I have bcome "that guy"... you know... that one that everyone HATES!!! I have posted basically the SAME f*€#ing thread as this one. And then I even went back and (still without simply reading the threads already "in play") I posted a shitty, "why has no one answered me" post. I stnad up now and say, please lay down the stones. I appologize, and will from now on be more careful.

Hey... I'm under a lot of stress ya know.

Repetatively yours,
Mike

Pisces ( Mike), a friendly observation,

You might think about limiting the number of words in your Queries. I have responded a number of times to you, I didn't this time because I dont know the omni, and maybe the 22 folks who checked out your post didnt either.

You might consider shortening some of your posts. I dont think the idea is a popularity contest, the point is that their are two similiar posts, and for one reason or another more folks have answered this one, but you got the info you wanted.

Still looking forward to sharing a beer with you when I play Munich this fall, I think the gig is in the first week of November, at the big Konzerthaus there. Cheers, Dave
