Okkkkkkkkkkay

This is what i have so far i need help setting up..wiring wise

Delta 66 PCI Interface
Behringer MINIMON MON800 Monitor Mixer
2 KRK RP5's Monitors
Studio Projects VTB-1 Preamp
Audio Technica AT3035
AKG K-77 headphones

i need help connecting all this togetherr..now i dont know how to wire (all the TS and TRS and unbalanced and that mumbo jumbo lol). and stuff...and would a headphone amp like the Behringer Miniamp AMP800 Headphone Amplifier be necessary..and what is it good for?

ps..i would need to monitor through the monitors during live recordings..and whats the difference between delta 44 and delta 66?

Thanks in advance

to my knowledge, the only difference between the 66 and the 44 is that the 66 adds s/pdif inputs.

anyway, install the PCI card, connect the breakout box to the PCI card. install drivers. connect your monitors to outputs 1 and 2. In your router tab of the control panel....I dont remember what it is actually labled, but it should be the second tab, set the first collumn to monitor mix. Now start up your recording software....cubase, Adobe Audition, what ever you are using to record...and set up your inputs....I cant tell you how to do that becuase its different in every program....

Spend some tiime in the newbies forum and use the search function for any term you have questions about. Your question is too broad for any of us to give you a useful answer. In the meantime, you could benefit from buying some of the basic home recording publications that spell out the concepts.

If your mixer is new, it will have an owner's manual. Behringer is pretty good at including some of the "whys" as well as the "hows" of connections; the manual is worth studying.

Another thing to do is use google to get to manufacturers sites (for instance, Mackie) and then nose around customer service or support areas. Most have their user manuals in downloadable form. Mackie is particularly good at providing basic hookup examples and good graphics to allow you to begin to understand signal paths and so forth. As an example, go to the Mackie site and download the manual for the CFX mixers. It's like a tutorial in this stuff.

Do a search here for "balanced" and you will find threads where the idea of balanced signals are discussed.

By the way... a word to the wise:

If you want us to spend time helping you learn, you'll have to get rid of this attitude right now. Nobody is going to take you seriously until you are able to take yourself seriously. It isn't "mumbo jumbo." You will have to learn it or give up and do something else. The Mackie manuals are pretty clear on what forms of cables you will encounter and how they are different.

You are working with a good interface - I have a Delta66 and it is rock solid. Good luck and let us know how things work out.

oh i didn't mean to be disrespective by saying mumbo jumbo..i am takin it seriously, just in a fun way...

Learnin should be fun tho no?...

but yea..does the MON800 only support 1/4" TS for the monitors...from what i've heard..is that good or bad..plus i heard its not a good monitor mixer...are tehre any other options with which i can control my monitors on an outboard..

No problem!

I'd not worry about the little mixer - use what you have. When you get enough hours under your belt, something about its sound will irritate you and that will be the time to upgrade.

TS connectors carry an unbalanced signal, so your monitors could pick up some interference. Just keep the cables as short as you reasonably can and keep them away from power cords - or where they do cross, keep them at right angles to minimize interference. Don't sweat it unless you're picking up radio signals in the monitor. That's when a balanced cable shows its stuff because it rejects that kind of radio interference.

I have a little Behringer headphone amp - cheap plastic little bugger but it works fine. One day I'll get something better, but not today. :D

Hey thanks...

Is there any other monitor mixer around the same price range?

edit: Can't i just connect the krk rp5's to the delta 66 outputs and control the volume through the DAW...?

and would i need a headphone amp..if i wanted to monitor with headphones?

you can connect the monitors to outputs 1 and 2 on the delta break out box. then in the software, select outs 1 and 2 as your monitor mix. Then, your control panel will control the volume unless you put something else between them like a Mackie Big Knob or something.....

Yep.

Just be careful about setting gain on the monitors so they don't blow you out of your chair when you power up. That's why I use a little mixer - I have a gain control at my fingertips independent of the computer.

If you use the mixer, you can also monitor on phones through the mixer's phone outputs and use, or not use, the studio monitors as you wish.

Better headphone amps are available - but let your needs dictate your gear purchases. If what you have now works, stick with it.

Thanks a bunch.

So I was thinking of grabbing a small mixer like a xenyx 502 for having volume contorl at my fingertips for the monitors and also the headphones

i would just connect from the soundcards output to one of the inputs on the xenyx and connect the monitors to the main outs on the xenyx ... ?

oh and the headphones into the phones

1/4" TRS - 1/4" TRS cables from delta 66 to mixer ... and either XLR - 1/4" or 1/4" trs - 1/4" trs cables from mixer to the monitors right
