Ok, I’m breaking down and asking for help… just like I always knew I would. I wasn’t sure if I should post this to the Cakewalk forum but, being a newbie, I figured I’d start here. A sincere “thanks!” in advance to any and all assistance…

Hardware:

M-Audio’s Delta 66 w/ Omni I/O Delta Series Audio Station
Micron Millennia B51 (512 Mb RAM, 1 GHz Proc, Win2K)
Cakewalk Home Studio 2002

I’ve yet to acquire studio monitors so I’m trying to use headphones for the time being, just till I get a better idea of what I’m doing…:)

Installed the hardware, all checks ok, no interrupt problems, etc. I haven’t actually tried to record yet because I first want to see if I can get sound out of the Omni I/O. However, I’ve connected a guitar into the unit and can tell it’s working because the Delta Control Panel meters are indicating activity.

I’m having a bit of a time understanding how to set Cakewalk and the Control Panel settings to function properly. For example, I don’t know what to use in the Patchbay / Router section (WavOut ½ or H/W In ½) and match the correct setting to Cakewalk.

I’ve tried selecting one and matching that setting in the Cakewalk output drivers setting but I get nothing in the headphones when I play a sample track. The Omni I/O Control Panel doesn’t seem to see anything coming from Cakewalk. Profiling seemed to indicate all is fine. Should all the drivers be highlighted, etc.?

HELP? I’m willing to go out and purchase a manual (I’ve tried reading the help info with Cakewalk) but I’d appreciate any up-front advice. The headphones work, I’ve tried them elsewhere.

Once again, many thanks to all! (please let me know if I should post this elsewhere...)

First, you set the HS2002 input to match the connection that you are physically plugged into on the Delta. IOW, if your guitar is plugged into input #1 on the Delta, set the input on the appropriate track in HS2002 to "Left 1/2" (or something similar).

Everything is going to be in stereo pairs. 1/2 is the first stereo pair, 3/4 is the second. The first number will represent the left and the second the right side. So Left 1/2 is connection 1, while Right 1/2 is connection 2. Left 3/4 is connection 3, and Right 3/4 is connection 4.

If you ever need to record a stereo source (e.g. a keyboard) you must plug into both connections (1 and 2), and then set the source as Stereo 1/2.

Similarly, you want to set you Output connections in HS2002 to match where your headphones are connected. I'm not real familiar with the Omni, but I think it has a headphone connection on it. You need to determine what stereo pair the headphone jack is common to, and set your output in HS2002 to match. It should be either Wave Device 1/2 or Wave Device 3/4. If one doesn't work, try the other.

Wow, thanks for the prompt reply! Unfortunately, I still can't get it work so I'm thinking I'm missing something fundamental. I'll keep reading the Omni info and the HS info to see if I can figure it out.

The I/O has 2 independent (I think) headphone outputs and I'm not quite sure what stereo pair(s) they are common to. I tried all the combinations I can think of and still no luck.

Hopefully someone out there has the same hardware and can point me to a personal working config. I hate to call tech support on this until I can conclude that it's NOT a configuration issue.

Again, many thanks for the prompt reply. After weeks of browsing all the forums on this website I've determined it to be one of, if not, the best source of information for what I'm trying to do. Couple that with prompt and informative replies like yours .... it's just awesome!

Thanks again!

Update: Delta 66, Omni I/O, Cakewalk HS2002... Please Help!!!

Ok, I've gone through the manuals for the Delta 66 & the Omni I/O along with reading through the info for HomeStudio. Everything appears to be setup properly. I'm using the latest drivers from M-Audio, etc. I've selected the Outputs 3/4 (tried 1/2) for playback and I still get nothing.

Question: I'm using one of the tutorial files with Cakewalk as a test and when I load it I get the track window and the Console window. When I select play I don't see any activity in the Console meters. Should I see something here?

Can someone please help?????

Thanks!!!!!
