You'll do fine w/ a Maxtor 30-40gb, internal, easily installed, going for around $100-120.

Can't say whether it's possible to be too big.

You'll only put your actual .wav files on your audio drive.

Don't know much about memory but I'm sure a search will do you good. 256 should be all you need.

Don't know what to make of your device manager reading. I was only asking in the hopes that someone else here more experienced would know. You could probably search this forum about disabling onboard sound too.

Have you given up the idea of building a new computer? I think this would help you tons. I'm still curious to see this work with what you have now, though.

Man, I can feel your pain.

Make sure that in the control panel, you have "single and in sync" checked, if that is there.

version. 27 was the best. I was using .29 but it was freaking up so I went back to .27 and everything is running smoothly.

Make sure you don't have the rate locked option clicked in the control panel.

The asio in .27 works fine. See if it works.

Are all your tracks going out to the same output . This could cause delay. MAke sure all the audio tracks are going out to the same output.

Is your system optimised for audio?

remove wallpapers, system sounds, screen savers. Also remove virtual memory. Many audio programs dont like it.

DIsable hardware acceleration of any kind.

Disable all memory resident programs, including your antivirus.
Dont run any program before you run logic. All programs leave residue in memory even after they have been closed.

My 566 was running faster than a 900 cos the guy had so much stuff taking up memory

As far as not being able to record a track when it gets to the beginning of the prerecorded track, it happens to me as well.

disable effects on prerecorded tracks before trying to record a new one. Just hold control and click on the effect and it will be disabled till you ctrl-click it again.

usually, the problem you described should not even be able to happen in Logic. What logic will tell you is that it had problems synchronising audio to midi.

Also enable your system resource meter in logic(if version 4.7 has it) and check how much disk and procesor it is using.

Defragment your harddrive.

I hope something helps.

We don't need a logic forum. I would not have seen this thread.

Hey cyan, haven't seen ya round much lately.

What's your source on the virtual memory and the hardware acceleration? I've seen just the opposite in a number of places.

Check this link: www.rme-audio.com/english/techinfo/lola/lola.htm

I think it's the most thorough, easiest to follow, most rational explanation of O/S optimization.

The last thing it says is that reducing graphics card acceleration and changing virtual memory from "Let Windows handle it...dude" are "senseless tips..."

System resource meter in Logic 4.7 is audio>system performance.

Still having pops' and clicks with the Delta???

Way back to the original post here. With the Delta cards, along with having the most current drivers installed for your OS, they cannot share an IRQ address with any other device. I found this out the hard way 2. W2k apparently stacks most devices on IRQ 11 & 9 for some reason. Anyone hope this helps someone

Screen Shots

Ok finally I have it up for all to see my idocity. I e-mailed E-magic and they said that not only is E-magic 100% compatiable with Win Me, that the technical support guy uses Win Me in HIS OWN studio. So my problems MUST be on one of these three places. now some of them are a little bit in German, but the most important parts can be seen in english. On this link you will find my:

DELTA-66 CONTROL PANNEL (6 screen shots, one for each tab)
LOGIC AUDIO PLATINUM <<AUDIO DRIVERS 1 & 2>>
PC DEVICE MANAGER <<AUDIO, VIDEO, GAME CONTROLLERS>>

You can either go to www.mikeperkins.net (laugh at my corny website) and then click on the link to go view the screen shots, or you can go to http://www.mikeperkins.net/HELP.html and hopefully it will take you right there.

Thanks a million guys,
Mike

H/W IN 1,2 has the faders all the way up, so I assume that's what you're trying to record from. But, they're muted, so nothing can get in the computer.

H/W OUT 3,4 is being fed the H/W IN 1,2. I assume you're monitoring your input directly from out 3,4. Probably OK, but you won't be able to hear previously recorded tracks. That same signal is sent to the monitor mixer latency free, so you could just monitor your input from out 1,2 along w/ whatever you recorded before. I say set H/W 3,4 to Wav OUT 3,4 and forget it for now. Do all your monitoring from 1,2. You shouldn't really need out 3,4 until you want to add some effects or something.

Why is H/W IN 3,4 hooked up to spdif out? Don't even think of messin' w/ spdif until you're comfortable w/ everything else. Set spidif out to spdif in, mute spdif and bring faders down in the monitor mixer(you already have).

A screenshot of your Logic audio environment would be most helpful.

What exactly are you trying to do anyway? I suggest the following test so we can all be on the same page and keep things simple:

1)Guitar to input 1, recorded to Logic track 1, while monitoring from monitor mixer routed to out 1,2.

2)playback Logic track 1, while recording 2nd guitar from input 1 to Logic track 2

3)playback Logic tracks 1 and 2.

Ok, I made some adjustments. I followed ap's advice and I got everything working. I recorded track 1 guitar, then track 2, listened to them during both recording and playback. Everything worked great. So I layed down a 3rd track, and a 4th, of only audio, effect plug in free audio. It worked flawlessly. But then I added Reverb to track 1, then EQ to each track, and reverb to 2 more tracks, and a little bit of compression to another, and I guess that was all she wrote, because the old familiar "ASIO driver malfunction.... Processor could not read Audio fast enough" bullshit came back. I have a pentium III 933MHz CPU. I have 128 MB RAM. Can this PC not handle 4 tracks with 7-8 plug in effects at once? I know I am going to get a 7200rpm HDD soon, and upgrade to 256 MB RAM. But jesus, there MUST be something else wrong. Also, I have searched through the Logic Audio manual and through a book that I bought called "Making music with Logic Audio" and I can not seem to find how to create another Audio Track. I went to FUNCTION>TRACK>CREATE and all that did was create a mirror image of track 4. It did not actually create a new track. How do I get more than 4 tracks. Somewhere down the line I deleted Audio tracks and now I want them back. This one seems easy, but I am stumped.

Also, I am still getting this Warning saying that THIS SONG WAS CREATED USING PC AV BUT THE CURRENT SETTINGS ARE ASIO, DO YOU WANT TO CONVERT ALL OBJECTS TOP ASIO???

I always just click on CONVERT but jesus that is annoying. I have gon ein and set everything that I can find to ASIO and then saved the AUTOLOAD song, but STILL this thing comes. Also, one these 4 tracks I have. ONLY track 1 always comes up as an ASIO device. When I click to track 2 I always have DIO in the DEV. box, and I have to set it manually to ASIO via the drop box. Then go to the audio env. mixer and set the input to input 1. Then I do that to all 3 of the remaining 4 tracks and then SAVE it. Switch off Logic Audio, turn it right back on. And they have gone back tot he original settings of DIO etc. WHAT THE???

Well anyway, I am overjoyed that I can at least get thsi far. THANKS A MILLION ap. Ihave gone bck to my website and updated the screen shots, now I have my environment pages and a few other screen shots. Could zou take a look at them now? Thanks man.

Mike

hey,

I could only see two pictures. Something wrong with my freaking browser. Anyhow, I think that you can free up some memory by rtedcing the number of tracks that you use in the drivers page.

change it to something like ten . THat should help a bit.
I know that its adviced to use the larger process buffer. Try turning that off and see if you get any improvement

a 7200 rpm drive will definitely speed things up

I couldn't see but maybe two pics either.

Did you try audio>system performance? You'll get two bar graphs, a harddrive and CPU, that bounce up and down in real time as you're running logic. I'd be interested to know what they're doin' when you get that message.

Did you go to that rme link I put up? All those tips there help alot, I think.

Another little helper is at start>run, type "msconfig", go to startup, and uncheck everything except 'scan registry' and 'systray'. Your computer will bootup without anything unnecessary. Then right click 'My Computer', go to properties, performance, and see the % system resources free. Start Logic, minimize the logic window and check resources again. This will give you a rough idea of how much you have to work with.

Now, don't get discouraged, but I don't think you've found anything. I think that thing you circled is just a blank placeholder for the IRQ, although I don't speak/read German and could be mistaken. I've got the same thing for the IRQ my soundcard occupies, and it works fine.

If you want to get your Delta on a seperate IRQ, try going into BIOS and disabling the printer port. (hit delete during the memory count on bootup).

I did this and my card is on IRQ 7 all by its lonesome.

I have no idea if this will solve your problems, but worth a shot.

IRQ

What does IRQ stand for?

If I delete my printer port, doesn't that mean, that my prionter port does not work anymore? I can't have that.

Any other suggestions?

Mike

Stands for Interupt Request.

Disable it when your recording, enable it when you need to print something.

I have know idea whether this will even solve your problem, but it's worth a shot.

I wouldn't worry at all about the IRQ thing. Like Dobro, I've got that "PCI Steering" thing all over the place.

You've got a VIA chipset with an Intel CPU? I thought VIA was just for AMD. Shows what I know. FWIW, alot of people have trouble w/ VIA/AMD. There's several references to this on Delta's website under FAQ. Here's one:

"
Q: I own an AMD processor with a VIA chipset. When the Delta plays a Windows sound, it goes into an infinite loop. In the Delta Control Panel under the Hardware Settings page, the sample rate is stuck at 22,050.

A. This is sometimes due to VIA chipset with AMD processors—there is a fix from the link listed below. The problems seems to stem from the USB in the BIOS being disabled. There is a file you will need to download and run from the VIA web site.

http://www.via.com.tw/drivers/index.htm

Here's another link to a site that is dedicated to fixing PCI timing issues, discovered by one of our users.

http://koti.mbnet.fi/parru/

"

excuse me while I hop in for a second...

just a couple of things:

1.) don't worry about sharing an IRQ with the 'IRQ holder' - it shouldn't present a problem

2.) the via link above is wrong (it changed in the last few months) - here is the correct one:

http://www.via.com.tw/jsp/en/dr/driver.jsp

I would recommend downloading and installing the '4in1' drivers from the VIA site.

3.) for goodness sake, get a faster harddrive immediately - as I'm sure you know (or have been told repeatedly) - anything below 7200 just won't cut it for anything more than a stereo recording (at least not in my world)
