I am planning on purchasing a Delta 44 sound card. I've read the description and stuff but I want a little more information before I actually buy it. What other features does the delta 44 have other than the ones they usually explain? Is there anything that isn't really good about it? What is included with the sound card? Are the inputs balanced or unbalanced? How would I go about installing the card in my PC?

Your help will be very much appreciated.

Have you gone to the web site, www.midman.com where the Delta 44 is made? I have the Delta 66 which has the same break out I/O box like the 44 only I have a SP/DIF IO on the PCI card itself. Easy setup and easy configuration with whatever software your using. I use Sonic Foundry's Vegas Pro with it, and use Cakewalk Pro Audio 9.0 for my MIDI stuff.

I just got a Delta44...and I posted a thread "get a real fricken soundcard" and there was a lot of discussion about it. You should be able to find it by looking down a bit.

I will quickly say that I haven't found anything really wrong with the Delta. The inputs are balanced and each input is individually selectable between -10, consumer, and +4. The mixer makes it *somewhat* easy to route things around, though once through the manual is a good idea.

The converters on this card are 1000% percent better sounding than a consumer card like the SB Live! (which I realize has great MIDI/soundfont capabilities).

I have read of people having problems with this card (like all card). I'd say that 40% of them had VIA chipsets and another 40% were setup incorrectly (try to give your Delta its own IRQ).

For the price, I think the Delta is probably the best choice out there now that gadgetlabs is gone, considering that you get 4 ins and 4 outs. I'm assuming you've seen the discussion on the BBS about this card and have seen the outpost.com price of $199 shipped?

I have grown to really like my Delta44, too. It is simple and straightforward and sounds great.
Slack- I was in the 40 percentile using a VIA chipset back when I was having problems. Now that I use the Intel set, all is great.
