Delta 44 stupid question

I just bought a M-Audio Delta 44 sound card. I noticed that after I stalled it and the software, that my computers built in soundcard (SoundMax) was disabled. My problem is that I still wanna be able to listen to audio stuff through my PC speakers and headphone jack...but I am not able to now. I am not even allowed to select the old soundcard in Control Panel. Just to see what would happen, I took the Delta 44 back out of the computer and uninstalled it. The old soundcard works fine. So whats up with this? In my old computer I had a Gadget Labs soundcard, and it worked side by side with the built in soundcard, so I could switch to whichever one I needed to use. Only difference is now I am running XP. Anybody have any ideas? Here is my system
Pentium 4 1.5Ghz
256mb Ram
Windows XP home edition
SoundMAX Digital Audio (built in soundcard)
M-Audio Delta 44 sound card
Thanks for any ideas! bOb

You can use the 44 for system sounds and CD player. Make it your primary card. Go to device manager and select your CD player and then properties. Check the box enable digital audio from this CD device.
