Hi to all, I just bought a Delta 44 soundcard and I'm wondering if I can use it as my only soundcard and remove my soundblaster live value card? If I do that, will I still be able to play cd's from the cd-rom? What would I do with the cable from the cd-rom over to the soundcard? I don't need any of the Midi capabilities, and I want to keep the system as simple as possible. I'm having trouble recording into cakewalk pro audio 9. Any help is welcomed.
thanks, *bird*

First of all, I wouldn't completely discount MIDI. Once you get going you never know what kind of sounds you might want to make. The SB Live is a good card for MIDI stuff.

Yes, you can still listen to CD's without the soundblaster. You don't plug the CDROM cable into anything, however. You get software that does digital audio extraction for playback, and you'll be able to use the converters in your Delta to hear the CD! Microsoft Media Player 7+ does digital extraction.

Thanks , you're right, the card does have a good MIDI section, but I have a yamaha keyboard that I can and am planning on using to get stuff off of to mix on the pc. Eg bass lines etc. I do have windows XP so are you saying that it will play cd's fine without the soundblaster? that's cool! Somebody had suggested I download a Siren program? I haven't heard of it? but if Media player 8 will work, then I'm set. i also have Music match jukebox...maybe it will work. I '' remove the card and see what happens! Again, thanks for your input!
