I just brought the M-Audio Delta 1010 audio interface, just wondering how its best set up. It seems to include a in built mixer, so does this render my hardware mixer useless? Whats the best way to link up powered moniters? I would like to begin recording drums with the 1010 so anybody got any existing set ups that work for them? Any help or ideas would be appriciated, Pete.

It doesn't render your hardware "useless". The inputs don't have preamps, so you can either use preamps or a mixer to run into the 1010. I own the lt version, but I run everything into my mixer and run it into my 1010.

If you're doing the Hybrid thing (analog gear and PC stuff) I'd say keep the mixer. Use the 8 outs of the 1010 to the board and if your board has inserts or direct outs, plug the ins to those and use accordingly. That way you can keep your monitoring chain setup however it is now.

I'm using something very similar, though I don't have a 1010. I'm using 2 Delta 410s (4 analog in, 16 analog out) As soon as I get my new board, I'll run each out to each in on the board and the 4 ins from the card will be on the inserts for the first 4 channels. I have a few cables that are wired to change the Insert to function as a direct out, which can also be done by plugging the cable in slowly, until you feel/hear the first "click". Then to record, I just unplug, for example, the output from the soundcard on channel 1, plug in a mic, DI, whatever, do my thing, and monitor through everything else.

I love the ease of using a PC but still love the sound and feel of analog gear.

I have a 1010 running and I have it set up thus:

A&H Mixwizard direct outputs to 1010 inputs
Monitor control pannel is set to monitor out on channel 1&2 on the 1010
channel 1&2 is plugged into two channels on the mixwizard
I have my monitors plugged into A&B output of the mixwizard to control volume

Hardware mixer is very much needed for the preamps.

Hope this helps
