Delta 1010 + Mixer question.

I posted here before about hooking up up my mixer using the INSERTS as outputs. It says in my mixers manual that the INSERTS can but used as outputs.

When I plug a 1/4" MONO cable into the insert then plug the other end into the delta 1010 I get what sounds like bleed. So I pulled out the cable half way and I got a loud signal from the insert.

My question is: Do I need to use stereo cables to get something from those inserts or what? Cause this is weird and the manual for the mixer says NOTHING about the inserts outputting to the left or right channel.

An insert is a handy way to add an effect or other processor to a single channel. To set up an insert, you need an insert cable, which has a 1/4" TRS plug (stands for Tip Ring Sleeve and it looks like the stereo connector on a pair of headphones) on one end and two 1/4" TS (regular plug like an instrument cable) plugs on the other. When you plug it in, you can now insert a processor. One of the TS plugs will be the signal Send, the other will be the signal Return. Please note that this is NOT a stereo connection even though it uses what looks like a stereo plug.

Now, to use the insert jack as an output, you'll do what you did accidentaly - only put the plug (using a regular TS cable) into the jack half-way (commonly called the "first click".) You now have a channel output that you can use to send to your soundcard. The level is controlled by the channel fader. Easy and convenient!

Cool, now I completely understand, thank you.

But I don't like having jacks sticking half out. :/

It may not look pretty, but it's probably the best way to do it with your set-up.
