GO PACKERS!
I just bought a 1010 as a blemished item from Musicians friend.I installed the card, breakout box and drivers but cannot get any sound either in or out of the breakout box.
The only thing I could do is get the SPDIF in to record.
I opened projects in Sonar and files in the media players. All of these run and show sound being played, both in the program and the Delta control panels monitor mixer.
I recorded sound with the SPDIF input both top Sonar and to windows sound recorder, but I have not been able to get a digital signal out .

I had a Delta 2496 that worked perfectly previous to this.

Any thoughts?I may end up returning this item if I can't get it to work.

OK, lot's of things to check here. Let's start by trying to get playback - you can work on recording later.

Did you uninstall the 2496, or is that still in the machine along with the 1010. I'll start by assuming that you uninstalled the 2496, removed the old drivers, installed the 1010 and new drivers and profiled the new card in Sonar.

With the Delta 1010 you are going to have more VMains than you did with the 2496, and initially they may be assigned wrong. You probably want to establish 5 VMains for your Sonar projects (1/2, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8, and SPDIF). If you haven't already, go to Options > Audio and increase the VMains to 5. While you are there, set your playback and record timing master to the 1010.

Now open one of your projects. Once the project is open, make sure you have your Mains view clicked on, and look at the OUT setting for each Main. I generally set mine up so that A = Delta 1010 1/2, B = 3/4, C = 5/6, and so on. However, you can assign them anyway that you want.

Where are your (powered) speakers plugged into? I'm going to assume that they are plugged into the Delta 1010 Out Connections #1 and #2. If so, for every Track in your project, make sure the Out is assigned to VMain A (assuming you assigned A to the Delta 1/2 as described above).

If the speakers are connected to a different outlet pair in the 1010, make sure then that the Tracks are assigned to whatever VMain is assigned to that pair.

You can try playback at this point and see if you get sound. If not, come on back and give us some details as to what you got.

ASIO driver config? most likely the issue...
Nope,Ive got it set for WDM

Did that

As far as the routing,I can't even get any inputs to meter aside from the spdif input but that's on the card not the breakout box. That's why I think it's funny I can't get a digital signal out.(?)

Also there is no sound from my media players.

I'm using 1&2 for outs and they show metering while playing but again no sound.I checked the speakers by unplugging the 1010 and plugging in my synth,so that's not the problem.I've tried the other ins and outs also.
At this point I'm thinking it's a bum cable or box.:(

Hulk... :)
Have you checked the cable plugged ? May be you plug it in wrong place/order. Probably you need to reverse the cable and make sure the order...

They show metering where? In Sonar, or in the Delta Control Panel? You should be getting a signal in both places.

Also check to make sure in the Patchbay area of the Delta Control Panel that you have H/W 1/2 set to Wave Out 1/2.

And, of course, make sure the speaker cables are plugged into the Delta's Out jacks, not the In jacks (sorry, I had to check :) )

And do you have the Delta setup cporrectly to use the +4 db or -10db switch (whichever your speakers require)? However, I think you get some sound in either case.

this just in....

I can get both digital in and out to work, leading me to believe that this is a hardware problem.

Any thoughts?

Mike's covered anything I could think of. Are you getting power to the breakout box? The light should come on. Maybe it's as simple as a bad power supply. That's all I can come up with right now. Also, does the midi I/O work?

James, there's only one way that cable can go. One end is 25-pin male. The other is female.

Just on a chance, I also suggested to acidrock to try the ASIO drivers.

However, since it was a scratch and dent special, there is a better than even chance that something is faulty.

Tried the aiso drivers
light goes on
I will try the midi
I'm thinking it is hardware related though....

I'm pissed:mad:

Another thought occurred to me. Check in Control Panel (Sounds and Multimedia | Audio) and make sure the Delta 1010 1/2 is showing up as your preferred Playback device.

That shouldn't affect using it with Sonar, but it will affect Windows Media Player and Windows sounds.

But, I'm still leaning with you, seems like a hardware problem.

Again, I agree with Mike (although we become enemies again at 1 PM as Clemens goes for his 300th win against the FIRST PLACE Red Sox).

And although this thread is not about me, anybody know why I should get garbled playback in Sonar (it's like the sound is under water) while any .wavs and .mp3's play fine? I just put together my piecemeal 1010 on my old PC and I'm pretty sure this is not a problem with the unit as I substituted the PCI card and the breakout box in my new PC and the both worked fine.

Guy I will continue to meditate on your problem as I will be checking settings on my problem. If/when you do get things going it will be well worth the effort. Hang in there.

One option is to go to Guitar Center and buy a new one. Hook it up and see if the unit works. If it works, you know the problem with the one you just got. Guitar Center has a 30 day no questions asked return policy.

Althogh it has nothing to do with this thread. . . Clemens sucks. One would think, going for his 300th win, he might want to give up something less than 8 runs. :(

The wheels are coming off the Yankee train. Hmmm... 50oF on Memorial Day weekend, and the Red Sox in first place. One could assume the world is coming to an end.

Now the Red Sox in first place at the end of September would really mean the world is coming to an end. :D

I won't even menton what the Brewers in first place might mean.

Usually an indication of overtaxing the CPU. What drivers are you trying to use? If WDM, you might want to try MME or ASIO.

update

The midi works, both in and out.

Chuck,we don't have a guitar center,we do have one store in town that has 1010's but I really don't want to go that route at this moment given that their return policy is'nt as liberal as GC which it seems is somehow related to Musicians friend.
I called customer service inquiring about a return. They said they have a no return policy regarding soundcards that have already been installed.I questioned this because...
A:this card is used and has been installed already or was a floor model. It seems that this is the "blemish" that I got the discount for.
B:How am I supposed to know if it works if I don't install it?Having made that point to their rep I was told to call M-audio's tech support and see what they had to say,if they think it's faultythey're supposed to E-mail MF!
Well if it's used(which it is)M-audios hands are washed of the whole deal and I'm back to square one.
I mentioned that the call was going to cost me money and was credited $16 but that does'nt compensate me for my time.

Yes I checked the windows control panel,
I tried every output and input on the card,
I can get metering on every output in the delta panel, just no output from the box.
I cross checked every cable and both my headphone amp and monitor amp.

I can get evry thing to function but the analog in outs.

This sucks......I want either a new card or my money back.I'm hoping MF does'nt give me the run around:mad:

It seems like they already are.

You want me and Chuck to get our relatives involved?

Guy, if you want to send it to me, I can figure it out in five minutes. I know it's a hassle and the clock is ticking, but I'd be willing to do that.

UPDATE....

Thanks for the offer Chuck, but for now I'm going with the support that's supposed to come with the card.
I called M-audio and together with the tech came to the same conclusion.......it's a hardware problem.Their head of tech support is supposed to be giving Musicians friend an E-mail backing up my claim, from there I'll have to wait and see.......

Smart move. Chuck was probably just looking to acquire some spare parts for his 1010. :D :D
