I have a 3-year-old Delta 1010 that has worked flawlessly until lately. A few months ago I noticed when I first turn it on I heard a hum that slowly faded away. Took a couple minutes, then it took longer and longer to disappear ... the hum is lasting about 25 minutes now and I'm pretty sure it's coming from the card, not the breakout box. Might be a failing rectifier, or maybe an oscillator? Any ideas? Anybody have this problem before. I'm hoping if it's the PCI card I can just buy a replacement instead of a complete new unit. Sigh.

Well the hum could be coming from anywhere! I would definately call m-Audio tech support right away, and make sure to explain very precisely your exact problem....don't let them try to give you any shit about IRQ's or anything :) (been there, done that, haha)

Thanks, Slack

Yeah, I'm a computer tech by day myownself so I know plenty about IRQs ... and besides, as I said, this is a problem that developed slowly and is just getting worse. I'm an old timer and I know about components fading out, rectifiers that stop rectifying, capacitors that die, something's happening in there that goes away with time .... and then the card performs as always ... as in, just fine thank you. I've already emailed Maudio but I don't expect them to be real quick ... you're right, I might have to call 'em and sit on hold for a while. I was hoping maybe somebody on the forum has already been through this with a Delta 1010 and could share their experience.

Welcome deadeye. I use a Delta 1010 and had some power supply problems. I did get through to M-audio and they gave me an RMA #. I sent them my unit and in less than 2 weeks it was back and working perfectly. If you can get through to them and you think it's a hardware issue with the interface box or soundcard itself, they will support you no questions asked (well, a few questions over the phone) ;)

Good Luck! :)

Thanks Barometer

Barometer ... you weren't just whistling Dixie!!!

After the tech dept. gave me the old IRQ Waltz for a while, I called the sales dept to beg 'em to SELL me a spare PCI card. They don't sell parts and they don't sell direct ... but after pleading and arguing a while I got a salesman with some clout and he said, "It's the breakout box. We've had some problems with capacitors overheating ... " and he said he'd ship me a new unit (for keeps) and when it arrives I ship my Dying Delta back to them. Gave me an RA number and said they "might" have to charge me $30 if the face of the breakout box is scratched ... hey, fine, works for me!!

All I can say is: Hats off to Maudio!! They make a great product and they stand behind it ... even 2 1/2 years later.
