Delta 1010, G4, and ???

Okay,

So I'm a newbie slut and this maybe shoulda gone in the newbie bin, but I need some real opinions from the experienced.

I have a 1010, a G4 500mHz, and THE shortest attention span (comparable to the latency of the Delta). I got the package with Max. Audio Tools and Logic Delta.

Problem: I can't understand any of the DAW programs, period. They're just too complicated. I want to be able to use something powerful, but I get sooooo bored perched in front of the screen until my ass fuses to the chair and my spine ruptures when I move for the first time in 3 hours.

I'm mostly going for audio, but I wanna learn a little bit of practical midi; I have a QS6; can't play, but I wanna fool around with it. I went for the Delta based on it's wide compatability and features and the sound quality etc etc... I didn't want to get stuck with one system with one choice and no other options (i.e. Digi 001), but I've heard it's the easiest.

I like my hardware, but if I can't use it, wtf? Please suggest what you think would be best for my "case," for lack of a better word.

man, you lucked out.

I got my delta 1010 with vegas, and even though it was the easiest to use, it had some issues.

Logic delta on the other hand is a powerful tool, allowing you to even write automation.

If you want to mess with your qs6.1, you need a version of logic with the environment so that you can download a predefined environment for it.

Have you been able to record audio with logic? Dont forget to set up screen sets as this makes it easier to work with logic.

If you have any specific Questions, I will be happy to walk you through as best as I can.

I use the asio drivers. if you have any version of the delta other than .27, throw it away and get .27 from the website. Its the only version that has not had problems.

If you want to try this, do it. To record an audio track, connect the outputs of your keyboard to input 3-4 of the delta 1010. Go to the control panel and make sure input 3-4 are unmuted and turned all the way up.
In Logic Delta select and audio track and arm it for recod. Go to your mixer and select the input 3-4. Click record. play stuff on your keyboard and it should record.
 
Logic Delta is pretty confusing at first. How about downloading a little prog like N-Track Studio?? www.fasoft.com

1. it is far more simplified yet still very powerful.

2. it has a (comparatively) short manual which is easy to consult.

3. it has a dedicated forum on homerecording.com

4. there is a demo with almost all the features and if you want to register (and lots do!) it is daftly cheap for the power.

I was in your shorts not too long ago. I got a used G4 and a Delta 1010 and bought Cakewalk Metro, the mac version of Cakewalk. I was confused as hell and got nowhere.

Dude, I bit the bullet, swallowed my pride and got protools le with digi001. I was making music in a couple of hours. Now I'm deep into it with mix automation, cut/paste, and all that good stuff.

I'm going to keep the 1010 for my windows machine and Acid, but protools le is the way to go if you get easily confused.

I have recently purchased a 1010 too to go with my souped up G3. I also purchased a Behringer Mixer which looks also like being a pain in the ass dodgy option, as most people also appear to think on here.

Previously i have been using protools LE 5.0 anyway, however is Logic Audio really that tricky i havn't had a bash at it yet merely been assing about with sets ups. How much different is it from Protools LE which i find fairly easy not that this came with any instructions mind. I am pretty good at intuitively using software and hacking my way through it.

Should i have likely, as a newbie, purchased a digi001 (my other option but more expensive) or just stay with what i got and make do? Or are my fears too premature having not had a bash at it yet. I wanna take it back sooner rather than later if i decide top change.

Not at all. In fact most audio programs are really simple to use. It is just getting used to them. I worked out how to use Logic Delta almost right away. I always recommend that you have a quick browse through the manual before using ANY audio program you haven't used before as it saves you grief later.

shot yourself in the foot? absolutely not. It a good setup. If anything you wil want to upgrade LD as it is very basic. Maybe Logic Audio Gold or Silver would be a good investment.
