What's the proper way to get rid of unneeded wav's in Cubase? I killed a few directly from the folder; I know that isn't the right way. When I load that project, I get the window showing that they're missing. What's the proper way?

Plus, do I need to do anything special to stop that notification window? Those unneeded wav's are permanently gone.

Thanks!

I use, Save As New Project, ie Rock Mix version 2. That just copies the files over that you're using in the project, then you can delete the old project by going into Program Files/Cubase/My Songs/Rock Mix and delete it.

I back up my projects quite regularly so if I screw up and delete the wrong project, I've still got the back up

Hope that helps.

Open Cubase. Close any projects that automatically open.

File>Cleanup>Select Folders > Choose the folder where you keep your Cubase projects. (I keep mine in a flder on my D: drive called Cubase.)
Click Start.
Cubase will scan your cpr files and compare that with what is in any subfolder of the one you chose in Select Folders. Any audio file found that is not in the cpr files will be considered unused and Cleanup will put it on the list.

I put all my mixdowns and finalized versions in the same project folder as the song I'm working on. That means they will show up in the list because they are not in any cpr file. Obviously, I don't want them deleted. I go through the list and individually select what files I want deleted instead of deleting all.

One way around that is to put your mixdowns and finalized audio files into a separate folder from your Projects folder.

Or if you are in cubase click "Remove Unused Media" from the "Media" menu.

Thanks, actually, I was thinking of trying it your way. lol

LOL Yeah, I got sick of songs with just a few WAVs growing to something like 20gb when I was only using around 4 WAVs and a few plugs that I actually wanted. The save as new project was a great idea Steiny had

I went to File but there was no "cleanup" option (AI4). However, I discovered that all I have to do is click on the pool icon while in a project and simply move anything I don't want into the trash. It was that easy. Looked in the file folder and everything I didn't want was gone. Pretty cool.

The best way to accomplish this is by using the Audio Pool.

To get to the pool window, press Ctrl+P.

Once you're there, right click the list of audio files and select "Remove Unused Media".

This will place all the files not being used in the project window into the Trash.

Once that is done, right click the list again and select "Empty Trash".

A dialog will come up asking you whether you want to merely remove the files from the pool or permanently delete them. Do whatever blows your hair back.

Cheers :)

Sorry, didn't see the OP found out how to do this already. Oh well, maybe the procedure will be helpful for others as I gave it step by step.

Cheers :)
