I got Sonar 3, but no interface yet. I've been just messing around with it in the soundcard built into my motherboard. (it's shitty but I just wanted to try and get the feel of the software) I plugged a microphone in, and it records delayed? why is this? What do i do?

Thanks,
T

In other words: Upgrade to a decent audiocard with proper drivers for recording to obtain a usable latency.

latency explanation

latency explanation. i hope i get this right !
in the early days windows was originally written as a office operating system.
rather than an audio OS.
and has a programmer interface called an API that lets the programmer direct commands to the sound card.
the execution of these commands can take a certain number of milliseconds. thus latency occurs. then along came asio etc and other driver models or API's that basically bypass the windows api, and go direct from the kernel of the operating system direct to the sound card. thus eliminating or keeping down the latency figure. as i understand now windows WDM model now goes direct as well. so if you want low latency and your tracks to line up, you might try a WDM driver if it came with your sound card or ASIO. if neither of these is available you might have to try a different sound card.
other folks please correct me if i'm wrong.
apparently, and i dont know which pkges, but some audio software has built in latency compensation.
