Delay- better to use pre- or post recording?

If the unit inspires you to play or has a sound that the average delay plug-in doesn't have, I say buy it. When you record, either use a splitter to record a clean version and an effected version to 2 separate tracks, or just be decisive and just record the effected version. It depends whether you're going all Edge-y or it's just for ambience. If it's just ambience, save your money.

The way I look at effects is that if they are an intrinsic part of the sound being recorded - record with effects. If they're just ambience and you are not "playing" the effect, record dry.
