OK I started a new gig tracking at a small studio in town. They use protools I'm not that familiar with the program so the little changes tend to bother me.

I was wondering if there was a way I could make a new session template that will default everything on the system to the original settings and keep that on a cd with me so I can get started quicker during the sessions.

Ya, you just set up a "template". Open a session, set everything up, save as whatever file name you want to call it, then iopen that session for each song and "save as" the name of the song.

what do you mean by defaulting everything? If you mean a template like Micter is talking about:

create your file the way you want it
save it
close PT
Navigate to the session file and make it a Read Only File (Windows it's Properties-->Read only...probably under Get Info on Mac, I think they call it Static)

Now you can do this two ways, open this template up each time and when you select save it will ask you to name the file...OR...do what I do and create your new blank session and do File-->Import Session Data
Press Ctrl+A to select all the tracks in that session and click Import.

All the tracks will then be brought into PT.
This way you can have a different sample rate, file format or bit depth whenever you want, but can give you standard plugins/tracks that you use a lot.

If you're talking about defaulting just the I/O setup, you can create the I/O the way you want and then Export the settings as a file...then just load it up everytime you come in.
If you mean the way windows and stuff are setup, there really isn't a way to do that...if other people use the system and change things, they'll be changed each time you open a new session.
This will help clear out your peripherals if you want: http://protoolsforum.com/DigiPrefs.html

Create a template. Now how ever many songs you want to track you will "SAVE SESSION COPY IN". Name the session and check the boxes at the bottom of that window that apply to your session ie. create fade foder, plugin folder, ect. Save the session I whatever drive you choose, Click "SAVE". Repete for next session. You template will stay a template. If you do not SAVE SESSION COPY IN and check the applied boxes @ the bottom of that window, your files will default scattered all over the place. That is somthing I hated about the software untill I found this out. Try it and you'll understand.
