Hey that sounds really good squibble. Nice, full, driven sounds. The ride could be a bit louder about 4/5ths in. Other than that I got nothing, can't wait for those vocals.

The two guitars wokr to gether very well rhythmically - they may be a little too close in tone though.
This has a bit of a Johnny Thunders sound to my ears.
Really good stuff: I look forward to the addition of the melody.

Thanks! I'll fix the ride.

I agree with the tone. I also think I was a bit out of tune. I might just re-do the guitars completely. Thanks!

What they said. I like the alt groove, and the ambience. Have a little trouble streaming....phat file??

Really dig this. Is that your sister singing? Whoever it is, her voice is great and her delivery is really great. I love the groove. I wouldn't have noticed this, but since Ray mentioned it, I guess the guitars are too close too each other, tone-wise. But, it actually created a pretty cool wall of guitar groove.

Great recording. Digging the solo, too.

The vocals really do top this off.
A very modern turn of melody - informed by Apple, Amos, Morriset et al but sounds all the better for being with guitars rather than piano.
Vety interesting lyrics too. Would you mind posting them?
Terrific stuff by the way!
Oh, the solo - nice & dirt & unshreddy - coool.

Yep, that's my sister. She said thank you. I say thank you too. :D

Thanks a lot! I'll post the lyrics if she's okay with it. I don't want to give her art away :D hahaha

That cheapo MXL 900 doesn't sound too bad eh? It fits her voice really well.

Man, she's got shades of Edie Brickell ... sounds good.

I like the vibe on this song, moves along nicely. I think sometimes the vocals compete with guitars during the verses.

I really like the solo, is that you playing?? Very musical.

Good song, good job.

Yeah, my buddy said the same thing; that she sounded like Edie Brickell. Personally I think she sounds like the singer from Company of Thieves. And yeah that was me! :D :laughings: Thanks a lot. What do you mean by "competing with guitars?" Frequencies competing, or the rhythm, or just in general?

She's not singing with as much energy in the verses as she is in the choruses, so her voice doesn't rise above the guitars. Just a volume thing, it's most notable in the first two verses. I suggest a small arrangement change, go with just one guitar for teh first two verses then two guitars during the choruses. It adds contrast between the different parts of the song and more energy. Maybe back to one guitar for the solo, then two from there on out... just a suggestion.

Another way is to automate the volume on her track. Boost it a little during the verses, then down for the chorus....

I already automated it like that, so I'll try again and post a new mix.

Hey suibble - this sounds really good. I like the energy that the bass line imparts to the whole thing. Your sister has a great delivery to her vocals and there is nice interaction between all of the elements here.

The guitar solo, while well performed and everything, surprised me both by its volume and tone...just wasn't expecting such a hard rock kinda sound on this tune, but again, well played.

Yeah, I still have to fix a few things. The solo was loud, so I'll post another mix soon. Thanks :D

Good song, well sung and performed so this is criticism at a high level:
The drums sound a bit gm and the guitars don't sound like they are coming through an amp so for me this song doesn't have any soul (in the original sense of the word).

I think if you could get the drums and guitar sounding like they are in the room with you, a little bit more reverb on the lead vocals would make the whole thing way more interesting.

Nice work squibble! You nailed it on all three fronts: great song, great performance, great recording/mix!

Really Nice

Dang Dude....
I loved it.
Honestly, I was prepared for some cheeze but got a full meal deal.

You did a really good job. The song stands on its own to begin with but the tracking and mix were good.
I am glad you did not do anything strange with the drum tracks... often when folks program the drums they do weird non-drummer stuff and it is a dead give away.

I never really heard the acoustic guitar... that one spot in the middle where the piano is just hitting chords would be nice place for some strums or arppegiation.

I'd be happy with what you've done.
