Can anyone suggest/recommend a decent keyboard for about/less than $1500? :) I already got an MS2000. I'm looking for keyboards for Hip-Hop/R&B music.. more instruments.. and of course, high-quality.. Thanks :)

What are your requirements?

How many keys are you looking for?

What kind of action are you looking for?

Do you want Pitch/Mod wheels or a joystick?

Do you want after touch?

How much polyphony do you need?

How much programability do you need?

Carl

And to add some more questions to the ones Krakit summed up already:

What will you use it for?

Do you need just the keyboard, or more interested in sounds alone? Or both? Are you an experienced keyboardplayer, or the common one-fingerplayer?

Do you need alot of sampled sound, sounds that sound like real instruments? Or do you want to create your own sounds (like in a synth?)

Yamaha Motif.....Motif..... and did I add the Yamaha Motif....well you get the idea, go to your local music store and try it out !

I currently own a synth, KORG's MS-2000, and I'm looking for a cheaper Triton. Can you guys give me some features in this unit... How many sound samples/instruments does it consist? Many people have told me that this is a weapon of choice for hip-hop/r&b music... I don't really needs lots of keys.. a 61-keys will do... Does Triton have a rack version? If so, is it possible hook it up with MS-2000's keys to play it? Does it sounds good? I'm looking for high-quality sounds as well... I'm a one-finger player hehe.. I'm just a beginner... Are there any keyboards that can beat Triton? If so, what it is? Does it cost less than $1500? Thanks for helping me out...

MUSIC: Hip-Hop/R&B
Sounds samples: Lots of instruments
Quality: HIGH!!! :)
Cost: less than $1500

There IS a rack mount Triton and Yes any keyboard with a MIDI output port can control it.

In the U.S. the Triton Rack which is a rackmount for about $1450. Yamaha Motif 6 is about $1600-1700.

I prefer the Motif and don't think there is a better sample-playback synth on the market, but the Triton has been a VERY popular keyboard for hip-hop/R&B and the sounds are excellent. The Triton and Motif both would be excellent additions to your studio and you really can't go wrong with either. The Motif is less money is the U.S., don't know about the Phillipines.

They both use different technology than your Korg MS2000, and their sounds would compliment it well.

What do you guys think of Triton LE? What are the missing features in the LE version? And what the hell does LE stands for? hehe... :)

So Motif is better than Triton?

The LE's keyboard doesn't have the same keys and it's action and feel isn't as good as the more expensive Tritons. It might not be as exandable either. I've played it....it's a great synth at a more reasonable price.

I think the Motif sounds are more realistic to what they are trying to emulate, and the acoustic piano sounds are much superior. It's also less money.

The Triton has many, many great sounds and a very logical interface.

There is no better, it's a tie. If you can't play either one before buying it, go with the Motif, you won't be disappointed. I happen to think it's one of the greatest synths I've ever played and I've been buying synths for 18 or 19 years.

geeq, can you play them before buying ?

Yea'.. I could go to some music stores here and play around with it... But I won't buy here, cuz it's very expensive.. almost twice the original price.. I order stuffs at www.musiciansfriend.com :)
Does Motif, have a rack version? Do you guys prefer rack or the whole thing?

My Choices

1) Korg LE
2) Motif 7 (yes you can buy one new for under 1500 bucks...)
3) Kurz PC2
4) Yamaha S80 (or S90 when released)

Good Used stuff: Roland VX-88, Korg Trinity, Kurz 2500

Where ? Motif 6 or Motif 7 ?

Guitar Center has been having a sale on the Motif 6 for a couple weeks now - $1500.

I stopped by one in Rochester, NY Sunday and they were selling the 61 key Triton LE for $999 as well

whoa! 999 bucks for triton le? aren't most stores sell this stuff for $1299? Do you know the website for this store? :)

You don't need a sale to get a good price

You should be able (with time, planning and diligence) to get a Motif 7 for mid to high 1400s. If you want to go larger you can get a Motif 8 for 2100. Sale schmale. I've never payed asking price at GC,online, or Mars for anything pro-audio. Know the price they can give and you're in. A standard is that they will always knock 20% of to get you in the door. In truth...they can sell for between %30 and %40 off. I always walk in and say, give me this for 40% off and I'll pay right now...otherwise I'm gonna see if someone else can. Then you find out what they really can do.

Oops...keep reading

Oops. I just read what I wrote and you're right I meant Motif6. Didn't mean to make people salivate to much.

Ok....let me put it all down:

Target Price for Motifs:

Motif8: 2150
Motif7: 1700
Motif6: 1450

These are out the door price (include tax shipping etc.)

I have a Motif8 and got mine for cheaper. Take the list for just about any keyboard and multiply by 65% and that should be your final price out the door. You can either say give it to me for this much and lowball them (it may get nasty) or say...this is what I want and I know people are buying it for this.

So if GC is offering you a Triton LE for 999 bucks..add tax it comes to about 1050...thats 65% MSRP ($1600) for a LE and is a good deal. Gosh..now you got me thinking about a LE too!

LOL :)

I've been seeing shiny silver rectangles with blue displays in my sleep for the last couple of days. Its very tempting...
